The evacuation order for east of U.S. Hwy 395 N from Eastside Lane to Cunningham Lane remains in effect. Approximately 400 residents are affected by evacuation orders. The order will be reassessed in 24 hours.
Fire behavior today exhibited minimal smoldering and creeping. No additional fire growth is anticipated. T

Lake Valley Fire releases holiday truck schedule

Due to COVID-19, the Holiday engine will not be handing out candy canes this year but all are welcome to wave and say hello from a safe social distance. Each night they start their trek between 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Ten inches of new snow fell overnight at Homewood Mountain Resort’s summit on Lake Tahoe’s west shore, and two inches at the base (lake level). With a winter storm warning in effect until 6:00 p.m. tonight, the National Weather Service forecast is calling for another 4-8” of snow throughout the day today, and 1-3” tonight.

Three fires burning from Doyle to Walker; all fed by high winds

Due to the fast moving nature of the fire, an Evacuation Order has been issued for the Walker, Coleville and Topaz areas, and US 395 is still closed from Bridgeport to the Nevada state line. There is 0 percent containment and 5,000 acres burned according to Inci-web. Liberty Utilities has de-energized the communities of Walker and Coleville up to Topaz at the state line for safety precautions. Liberty is working with all emergency agencies and will safely restore power when possible.
Tahoe Fund calls for projects to fund that help preserve the Lake Tahoe Basin

The funding for projects are designed to restore Lake Tahoe’s famed clarity, create healthier forests, improve transportation, create more sustainable recreation, and inspire greater stewardship in the region.

California and far western Nevada. Rain and higher elevation snow are likely later Tuesday and Wednesday with travel in the Sierra affected. Temperatures will fall closer to average for the middle to the latter portion of the week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.
There is a High Wind Watch and a Winter Weather Watch in place for the Lake Tahoe Basin, though lake level should not see much snow.

First come the winds. A High Wind Watch is in effect Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Winds will be front the south 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible. Stronger wind gusts to 75 mph are possible in Nevada for wind-prone areas along and west of Highway 395 and Interstate 580. Exposed ridges are likely to gust over 100 mph.

They couldn't sew, so making masks were out of the question. What could they do?
They could tell a story.
The nine-year-old Mackenzie and her dad, who wrote the book under a pen name, M.C. Behm, started to explore what messages they could convey between the front and back covers.
Retired SLTPD K9 Tara dies after being honored with ceremony

After surviving cancer surgery that resulted in the loss of one leg two years ago, K9 Tara was put to sleep after being hit by the disease once again.

High Wind Warning for Lake Tahoe

Southwest winds are expected to be 25-35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Wind prone areas such as the Sierra foothills and portions of US-395 through the North Valleys and Washoe Valley can see gusts to 75 mph at times. Sierra ridges will gust well over 100 mph.
This warning is for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area and Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area.

With no visual component, radio drama depended on dialogue, music and sound effects to help the listener imagine the characters and the story. Each episode would leave listeners wanting more and the level of anticipation grew as the next airing date grew closer.

A total of 3"-6" of snow is expected with upper elevations seeing up to 10" of snow.
There are current chain controls on SR88 from Silver Lake to Picketts Junction but the new storm approaches expect chain requirements on all main highways and passes.

Victim in fatal head-on collision identified as South Lake Tahoe resident
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/05/2020 - 3:05pmZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The victim of Tuesday's deadly crash on US Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove has been identified as a South Lake Tahoe resident.
At 6:25 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a head-on collision at Douglas County miler marker 3.
The NHP preliminary investigation shows a black 2011 Dodge Ram pickup was traveling eastbound on the highway approaching a right curve in the roadway. At that same time, a gray 2003 Honda Element was approaching the same curve as the driver headed westbound.

There is a little bit of everything in the five day forecast for South Lake Tahoe.
Starting Thursday, November 5, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin. It will be in effect from 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The forecast gusty winds and critically dry fuels could cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity.
Suspicious device found along South Lake Tahoe bike trail
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/04/2020 - 10:41amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A portion of the bike trail between Pope Beach and West Way was closed Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious device was found near the bridge.
A concerned person who thought the device could be a pipe bomb called the El Dorado County Sheriff who responded along with Lake Valley Fire and South Lake Tahoe Fire. The device was suspicious enough that patrol called the county's EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) who came in from Placerville.

Chance of smoke from Creek Fire back in Lake Tahoe Basin Friday

The first wave of smoke is expected by dawn Friday and could last until evening. Much of the region could experience widespread haze.

During the meeting, Dr. Williams told the supervisors it is now obvious that California is in the midst of a second wave of coronavirus cases, and El Dorado County is experiencing a second wave as well, but so far the numbers have kept the region in the "orange."

New forestry program headed to Lake Tahoe Community College
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/09/2020 - 12:17pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A new Forestry Education and Job Placement program is heading to Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) in South Lake Tahoe.
To get things started, the California Tahoe Conservancy Board awarded the college a $351,000 grant and $480,000 was received from CAL Fire’s Forest Health Grant Program. LTCC has hired Kim Carr as their contracted consultant on the project and she helped write the grants and secure funding for the new avenue of education in South Lake Tahoe. She is bringing 30 years of forestry and environmental experience to the college.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/08/2020 - 10:28pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City, Truckee, Markleeville, Stateline, Glenbrook, and Incline Village from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday.
Expect southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph expected. Waves will be 2 to 4 feet with highest waves on the northeast shores.
Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

On hand for the free and public event will be Congressman Tom McClintock and Former State Senator and current member of the California Board of Equalization Ted Gaines.
Heavenly Village is located one block west of the state line at 1001 Heavenly Village Wat in South Lake Tahoe.

Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/04/2020 - 10:20pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Change is in the air for the Lake Tahoe region this week. We'll be saying goodbye to the 80s and 90s, and hello to more seasonable 60s and 70s.
By the end of the week there is even a slight chance of rain and upper-elevation snow (yes, I said that word).
High pressure will produce warm afternoons, dry conditions, and mainly light winds through mid-week. Mornings will remain cool to chilly. Areas of smoke and haze will linger into Monday or Tuesday. Cooler, breezy, and wet conditions are possible Friday through next weekend.

COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/01/2020 - 7:34pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another eight residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, three are in El Dorado Hills, four in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, one in the Greater Placerville area, and none in the Lake Tahoe Region.
The new cases are three under the age of 18, three aged 18-49, one aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older
Another 74 people were tested for the coronavirus and 66 negative tests results were received.
There have been another three assumed recoveries with 114 assumed active cases.
Warm and dry week ahead in South Lake Tahoe

An area of high pressure will build into the Great Basin leading to warming temperatures and dry conditions through at least next weekend, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.
