On Thursday, July 20, UC Davis TERC will be hosting the annual State of the Lake presentation at Granlibakken Tahoe located at 725 Granlibakken Road just south of Tahoe City.

TERC director Geoff Schladow will present the much anticipated State of the Lake Report. The Tahoe State of the Lake report informs nonscientists about important factors affecting the health of Lake Tahoe and provides the scientific underpinnings for restoration and management decisions within the Lake Tahoe Basin.

RENO, Nev. - The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) swore in three board members and one reappointed board member. Additionally, the Board of Trustees unanimously elected Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority CEO Carol Chaplin as the Chair of the Board, Richard Jay as Vice-Chair, Jennifer Cunningham as Treasurer and Adam Kramer as Secretary for this fiscal year.

Chaplin also served as chair in 2019.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Housing El Dorado, in partnership with the El Dorado Community Foundation, is conducting a mobile home park rent survey to assist Housing El Dorado in their ongoing efforts to improve affordable housing options within El Dorado County, including South Lake Tahoe. LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The 34th celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe doesn't get underway until Friday, but before that, a Celebrity Pro-Am will be held on Thursday with two shotgun start tee times.

The American Century Championship offers a purse of $600,000 and network television exposure on NBC and is the most prestigious celebrity tournament in golf. The 54-hole competition is for current and former professional athletes, entertainers, and media commentators. The tournament is contested among 90 competitors under a modified Stableford form.

The premier cycling event in California, the Death Ride, will be held this Saturday, July 15. Since 1978 cyclists have been challenged to ride a route with over 14,000 feet of climbing, over 103 miles in distance, six categorized climbs, and over three mountain passes.

There are some road closures those not participating in the race need to be aware of. The event runs from 5 a.m. - 6 p.m. SR89 and SR4 will close at 5 a.m. The Monitor Pass section of SR89 re-opens to vehicles at noon. The Ebbetts Pass section on SR4 re-opens at 4 p.m.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – The boat ramp at Sand Harbor State Park will be closed from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 15 to accommodate the Trans-Tahoe Relay Race. The swimmers will start their race at the beach located just south of the boat ramp at approximately 7 a.m.

The boat ramp will reopen for normal boater traffic at 8:30 a.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Y Center in South Lake Tahoe has been without one of its anchor stores, KMart, since its closing in August 2021. The owner of the center, Seven Springs, Ltd, turned in plans to the City of South Lake Tahoe for design review on July 7, 2023.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Nineteen miles of trail that travel through Desolation Wilderness from Echo Lakes to Lake Aloha are in desperate need of extensive restoration work due to high use, erosion, and extreme weather events. To address this critical need, the nonprofit Tahoe Fund is partnering with the Tahoe Rim Trail Association to launch a $50,000 matching campaign.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – This summer, the City of South Lake Tahoe is building stormwater drains to address localized flooding and reduce runoff pollution on Barton Avenue, Helen Avenue, and 2nd Street. A new stormwater infiltration basin will also be constructed on 2nd Street, which will reduce fine sediment entering the lake and protect the clarity of Lake Tahoe.

To accommodate this project, South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) will be moving waterlines, which will result in some water shutdowns in the neighborhood.

Erich E. Alexander, May 16, 1957 - July 6, 2023. Our hearts are broken as we announce the loss of our beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Erich E. Alexander passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side.

He was a patient, loving, caring, sincere, and incredibly skilled person. He was grateful for every day. Erich was born in San Mateo, Calif., and spent his first seven years in Pleasanton, Calif. The family then moved to a new home in Dublin, Calif. where he lived with his two brothers and parents until he graduated from Dublin High School in 1975.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – According to the National Weather Service dangerously hot temperatures exceeding 100 degrees are expected over the weekend (July 15-16) in Douglas County. An excessive heat watch has been issued by the National Weather Service from Saturday morning-Monday evening.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The casino sportsbooks at Stateline have former professional tennis player Mardy Fish at 11/4 odds to win this week's American Century Championship (ACC) at Edgewood. That put him directly behind the favorite to win, Tony Romo

Fish was in town ahead of the tournament to share his thoughts on golf, the ACC, tennis, and mental health.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) is holding a series of workshops for Tahoe landscapes, free to the participants.

The next workshop is on Tuesday, July 18 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the office's garden. Learn how to design your home landscape for beauty, function, and water efficiency.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - What was once Embassy Suites and the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel in South Lake Tahoe will be emerging as the Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe by the end of 2023 after a multi-million dollar top-to-bottom reimagination. On Tuesday Margaritaville announced the debut of Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe - the brand’s first lodging location in a ski destination and the only all-suite resort in South Lake Tahoe. The rumor had been circulating for a few weeks as the project went through the planning process.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 27th annual Lake Tahoe Summit will be held on August 9, 2023, at the Kings Beach Recreation Area from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This year’s summit will highlight Tahoe’s Environmental Improvement Program, a successful bipartisan, bi-state collaboration among local, state, federal, and private entities. It will also examine the challenges that lie ahead in the face of climate change and increasingly unpredictable weather whiplash, as well as the growing demands on regional infrastructure.

NBC Sports and American Century Investments jointly announced Monday a multi-year extension of one of the most prolific partnerships in professional sports – the American Century Championship – to run through 2029, the tournament’s 40th anniversary. LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) is scheduled to continue prescribed fire operations this week at Lake Tahoe. Conditions and weather permitting, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is scheduled to burn piles at Spring Creek near South Lake Tahoe beginning today, July 10, 2023. Prescribed fire ignitions typically begin at 10 a.m. and smoke will be present.

The 26.4-acre project is expected to last until July 14.
