Column: Simple Ways to Live Happily
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/21/2019 - 11:59amI was recently watching the movie Castaway. This time, as I watched, I thought about how it was filmed. As the movie begins, Tom Hanks’ character has a bit of a belly. As the story progresses he becomes thinner and more muscular. I assume the effect was created by filming in reverse; he began as thin and muscular and gained the weight afterward. I began thinking about how easily we can change when we put our minds to it.

Early morning earthquakes near Carson City
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/20/2018 - 7:40amDid you feel them? There were two earthquakes in the southeast end of Carson City Thursday morning.

As shown in the picture this same area has had a lot of seismic activity in the last two weeks. Eastern California and Northern Nevada experience thousands of earthquakes annually so Thursday's earthquakes aren't unusual, just larger than normal.
