The community is invited to a special Good Friday performance of “The Living Last Words,” a dramatic musical experience commemorating the Seven Last Words of Christ, written by Ruth Elaine Schram, with music direction by Maureen Leonard, and stage direction by Susan Boulanger. Bodies will be dropping like flies as mystery, chaos, and laughter prevail during The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, a Hollywood murder mystery being performed by by the Theatre Arts Department at Lake Tahoe Community College.
The play, written by John Bishop and directed by Susan Boulanger, will be at the school's Duke Theater March 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees on March 13 and 20 at 2 p.m.

March 4, 2016 - 7:00pm Lake of the Sky Outfitters will be showing the movie "Third Man on the Mountain", a Disney classic about a young man trying to fulfill his fathers quest to to climb the mountain that killed him, "The Citadel". Filmed on and around the Matterhorn the film accurately depicts the climbing style and equipment of the Golden Age of mountaineering. The actors had to learn to climb to make the movie more realistic.
Admission is free. We will accept donations to defray the costs.
No limit to seating but we would like an RSVP TO 541-1027 so we know how many refreshments to bring.

What is a Chautauqua?

Chautauqua was a very popular adult education movement in the United States during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Named after Chautauqua Lake where the first was held, Chautauqua assemblies expanded and spread throughout rural America until the mid-1920s.
Former US President Theodore Roosevelt was quoted as saying that Chautauqua is "the most American thing in America."

The Lake Tahoe Historical Museum has had the posters of the event up on its walls for months, getting history buffs and locals excited about seeing the likes of Mark Twain, Anita Baldwin, Hank Monk and Pony Express Rider Warren Epson, all who played important roles in Tahoe's past.

Have you ever seen lance splitting jousting? Shot a quiver of arrows? Seen sword fighting? If you head over to the faire you'll see all that, and more, including a thousand actors dressed in period clothing walking around, taking to the stage or singing and juggling.
If you've never been, this is a fun and "must do" event on the south shore. It runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Sundays.

But What is it?
Someone takes a video of themselves jumping into a body of cold water (such as Lake Tahoe, the Truckee River or Trout Creek). Once they emerge from the water they record themselves saying the names of people they are challenging to jump in cold water as well, and within 24 hours.

Dr. Seuss, yet, to this day, his Secret Art and his fantastical Hat Collection are virtually unknown to the general public. Throughout his lifetime, Ted Geisel created paintings and collected hats which he secreted away in a hidden closet at the Dr. Seuss Estate. This is the first time ever that Dr. Seuss’s hats have ever traveled outside his home.

Based on the 1974 movie, Mel Brooks added music and dance numbers to bring the play to a whole new level. "The kids have been working hard with long hours, and they're enjoying it," according to Liz "Niv" Niven, the school's theater director since 1997.

No SEALs are identified by name, although there is a surprisingly length listing of SEALs who have died in action at the end of the film.

And for all those Star Wars fans, and they know who they are, you won't want to miss it; though you can see the release without 3D and you won't be missing much.
