South Lake Tahoe fire stations stocked with loaner life jackets
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/20/2017 - 7:33pmThe use of life jackets saves lives, especially on Lake Tahoe where Cold Water Shock can kill a person in minutes.
It has been a deadly year on the lake, and the South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) department has started a new program to help save lives in the future.
California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) has partnered with SLTFR in making life jackets available to the public on a loan basis. They have infant, child and adult sizes.
Season winding down for El Dorado Beach Boat Ramp
Submitted by paula on Wed, 09/13/2017 - 2:23pmBeginning on Monday, September 18, 2017, the El Dorado Beach Boat Ramp at Lakeview Commons will be closed Monday through Wednesday, and open Thursday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The last launch will be at 4:30 p.m.
The last day of Boat Ramp operations will be Sunday, October 1, 2017.
The maximum boat length is 23 feet. The boat length is subject to change due to water levels. The boat ramp passes under Lakeview Avenue, with a maximum 12 foot clearance.

Underwater ROV locates bodies of man missing in Lake Tahoe and boy in Stampede Reservoir
Submitted by paula on Sun, 08/27/2017 - 11:51amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The body of Dan Pham, the man missing in Lake Tahoe after a kayaking trip, has been found by an underwater search team just a few days after they found the body of 11-year-old Marcos Vasquez.
On June 8, 2017, Pham, whose full name is Pham Dan Vu Thanh, called a friend at 9:15 a.m. to tell him he was going kayaking and camping in the Lester Beach area. As of 6:15 p.m. that evening there had been no word from Dan.

60th free concert this week at Live at Lakeview
Submitted by paula on Tue, 08/15/2017 - 10:37pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For six years Live at Lakeview has been the place to be on Thursday nights in South Lake Tahoe, and this week marks their 60th free concert.
On August 17, the signature concert series will have Sol Peligro and Boca do Rio on the beach at Lakeview Commons starting at 4:30 p.m.
The popular series is presented by Toyota USA, the City of South Lake Tahoe and On Course Events and goes until the end of August.

Paul was born in Oakland, CA on November 24, 1933 to Arnaldo and Ruth (Dobbins) D'Anneo. He married Barbara Moore in Berkeley, CA. Having attended Cal Poly, he worked as an electronics engineer.
Water restored to Tahoe Keys Marina
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/28/2017 - 10:13am4:30 p.m. update: At 3:35 p.m. Friday afternoon the water was turned back on at the Tahoe Keys Marina. The two parties, Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association and Tahoe Keys Marina Management Inc., were able to work out an arrangement to get things flowing again.
The marina's lawyer Michael Matuska said he will file notice with the court to vacate the August 3 hearing as the two parties will be working on a continued relationship out of court.
Matuska did not release the specifics of the arrangement that restored the water service which has been down since July 11.
Report: Lake Tahoe is getting warmer, trees are dying and algae is increasing
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/27/2017 - 6:47pmClimate change has brought major changes to Lake Tahoe including warmer water, an increase in dying trees and a reducing summertime lake clarity.
These and other findings were released today in the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) annual Tahoe: State of the Lake Report for 2016. The year was marked by the hottest temperatures on record followed by a winter of unprecedented levels of rain and snow in the Sierra Nevada.
TERC Director Geoffrey Schladow presented the report at a free public talk July 27 in Incline Village.
Public has opportunity to comment on new Lake Tahoe Shoreline Plan

Stakeholders have been working collaboratively in developing solutions to both manage natural resources while improving access to the lake for recreational purposes.
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, (TRPA) is asking for public comment as they go through the process of preparing a draft environmental impact statement for the proposed Lake Tahoe Shoreline Plan.

Teen reported missing in Lake Tahoe area found safe

"People are very excited to get on the water," said Edwin Lyngar, Nevada Department of Wildlife's (NDOW) Water Educator. "Take safety precautions as you can't depend on luck."
Lyngar as well as both California and Nevada water safety experts were at Sand Harbor last week to inform the public about how easy it is to be safe on the water.

Popular South Lake Tahoe waterfront restaurant closed after water shut off
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/12/2017 - 6:28pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An ongoing legal battle between the Tahoe Keys Marina and the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA) has resulted in the water being shut off to all buildings at the marina.
Since the Fresh Ketch restaurant and adjacent deli are in one of those buildings, the El Dorado County Health Department shut them down due to a lack of water. A notice was also put up on the apartments in the complex advising residents of unsafe living conditions since there was no running water.

Many hikers are turning around because of difficulty they have in finding the trail because of the large amount of snow at upper elevations, limited dry ground, frozen lakes, and high stream crossings.

Search continues for missing kayaker on Lake Tahoe's West Shore

The search was suspended for two days due to bad weather but boats were back on the lake Monday to search for Pham.

Boating safety from the Coast Guard
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/26/2017 - 9:04pmThe Coast Guard reminds boaters to exercise caution and safe boating practices while on the water, including rivers and Lake Tahoe while enjoying the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
All boaters and beach goers are encouraged to be aware of boat traffic, prepare for potential hazards and keep advised of weather changes through the National Weather Service. Winds are supposed to be calm on Lake Tahoe this weekend, one should always check.
Quagga mussels found on boat during inspection near Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/26/2017 - 3:23pmThe watercraft inspection spots around Lake Tahoe once again proved their valuable service when a boat at the Alpine Meadows station was found to have quagga mussels on board May 14.
The boat was quarantined for several days and Tahoe Resource Conservation District staff performed multiple decontaminations to ensure all invasive species were removed before the boat was released to the owner.
Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board voted to increase prevention methods by requiring motorists towing boats to remove drain plugs from their watercraft after leaving the lake.
El Dorado Beach boat ramp at Lakeview Commons open

2012 was the last year the El Dorado Beach boat ramp was open due to the following years of less than stellar winters and the ensuing drought.
The cost is $17.00 - Day Use Launch, $40.00 - Commercial Day Use Launch and $138.00 - Annual Pass. There are staff members assigned to the launch to collect fees. The ramp is open 8:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m. daily with the last launch at 4:30 p.m.
Community turns out for celebration of SLT Police Department's 50th anniversary
Submitted by paula on Sun, 05/21/2017 - 9:59pmThe first South Lake Tahoe Police Department community gathering was a successful one on Saturday as the 50th anniversary of the department was celebrated with hundreds of people at Lakeview Commons. There were rides on both the police and fire boats, a concert, BBQ, interactions with the police K-9s, booths, fingerprinting and an awards ceremony.

SLTPD 50th anniversary to have boat rides, K-9s, Calstar, BBQ, concert and awards
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/19/2017 - 11:13pmThe community is in for a treat on Saturday, May 20 as the South Lake Tahoe Police Department celebrates 50 years of service with a party at Lakeview Commons from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Locals and visitors, young and old, can ride on the SLTPD boat, see the department's K-9s, watch a demonstration over the water with CalStar at 3:00 p.m., watch how the drone assists in rescues, an awards ceremony that will honor three citizens as well as staff at 4:00 p.m., and a free BBQ. There is also a free concert on the beach.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): The highway is reduced to one lane in each direction at Bridal Veil Falls for slope repair work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Bull Creek Road to Alder Creek Road near White Hall: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon Friday for drainage work.

Help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) at a community celebration on Saturday, May 20 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lakeview Commons.

Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 05/09/2017 - 12:24pmThe sunken sailboat off the shore of South Lake Tahoe near El Dorado Beach will soon be a thing of the past. All winter long the mast of the sunken boat could be seen from the shore, and as water levels rose, the mast tipped over more.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) in North Lake Tahoe, they had sent a crew to the boat during the winter to document and verify the sinking, retrieved the vessel number and made contact with its owner. USCG said they also made the information public so boaters would be forewarned of the hazard.

The 50th anniversary of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) will be celebrated with a community party on Saturday, May 20 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lakeview Commons.
There will be food, music, the annual SLTPD awards ceremony, as well as booths to highlight what the department does for the community. Meet SLTPD staff and officers and enjoy fun and games.
