Summer vacation at South Lake Tahoe promises beach fun and food, music and memories

As David Letterman rhetorically asks: Hey kids, do you like the rock n' roll? Two outdoor concert venues at South Lake Tahoe will be filled with superstar performers, plus there's dozens of outdoor competitions and family events, fireworks extravaganzas and the country’s biggest celebrity golf tournament that has Tahoe South positioned as summer’s hot spot for entertainment, outdoor recreation and events.

Valhalla Renaissance Faire

The 20th annual Valhalla Renaissance Faire continues June 9-10, and highlights the pleasures and pageantry of an Elizabethan country fair. Costumed players will perform at Camp Richardson Resort in the shady lanes and byways, and sell their wares from market stalls filled with fine handmade crafts.

In-town public sled hills disappear

Though it is off the radar, sledding will always have its place as an all-ages family activity. And though there are plenty of places to sled and tube around the city limits of South Lake Tahoe, the last of the remaining free places in town have dried up.
And not for a lack of snow, either. Two sled and tube hill favorites have been removed from the public after recent projects leveled some of the property to make way for expansions.

Fallen Leaf trail and improvement plan continues to stir concerns

Questions continue regarding a U.S. Forest Service plan to make trail and other improvements in the Fallen Leaf Lake area. With a comment deadline now past, the project entails improvements to 12,960 acres and includes nearly 42 miles of existing trail from Pope to Baldwin beaches on the north end to the south and west ends of Fallen Leaf Lake.

New storm to arrive on Sunday; ski resorts prepare for brisk business

Winter weather continues through today in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Ski resorts report up to 2 feet of snow from the system which arrived Friday and continues today. The National Weather Service in Reno reports that a second and much colder storm will move into the area on Sunday into Monday, dropping temperatures and bringing more snow. Here is the latest from the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority on the storms:
