After watching the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on opening weekend, we highly recommend this fun musical though not appropriate for those under 13). It is a Tony Award-winning musical comedy and even though far from Broadway, the local Lake Tahoe cast made it very entertaining.

New rules for those attending American Century Golf in Lake Tahoe

American Century Golf Championship in South Lake Tahoe is always a fun place to be during their week-long tournament, but fans need to know of some new policies that will be strictly enforced in 2017.

The tournament takes place at Edgewood Tahoe July 11-16, 2017.

There is no bag check or camera check area as in the past, so if attempting to enter and items you are carrying are not allowed they will have to be returned to motel room, vehicles or disposed of.

No backpacks or large purses. All bags are subject to search.
No food. Small 12 oz. water bottle is ok.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Justin Timberlake is returning to Lake Tahoe for his third consecutive year playing in the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe. The singer/actor was an instant crowd favorite in his first year, and continued to be fan favorite in 2016.

Timberlake, an avid golfer, has a 4-handicap. Besides singing, acting, being a husband and father, he is also known for his philanthropic endeavors.

Newly-retired quarterback Tony Romo an early favorite to win in Lake Tahoe

Tony Romo returns to Lake Tahoe for the 28th annual American Century Championship golf tournament, his first since 2012.

The newly-retired quarterback from the Dallas Cowboys is an early favorite at the sports book, sharing the 3 to 1 odds of winning with two-time defending champ Mark Mulder. Two South Lake Tahoe hockey teams went to San Jose to compete in the 2017 California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) State Championships, and both came home with a division title.

The Lake Tahoe Grizzlies Pee Wee A and Bantam B hockey teams won their respective divisions during the tournament at Sharks Ice March 31 to April 2.

Former Truckee High football coach dies in head-on collision

Former Truckee High School head football coach Robert Shaffer was killed in a head-on collision outside of Sierraville at Saturday night according to the California Highway Patrol in Truckee.

Shaffer, his wife Lisa and 22-year-old son Patrick were in their Toyota Corolla on SR-89 in Sierra County just before 9:30 p.m. when a Ford F250 driven by 54-year-old David Slaughter of Sacramento drifted into Shaffer's lane.

South Tahoe Grizzlies win Norcal title, now headed to state championships

The South Tahoe Grizzlies Bantam B team defeated Stockton 3-1 in Oakland earlier this month to win the NorCal Bantam B Division title, giving them entry into the California Amateur Hockey Association State Championship in San Jose March 31 and April 2.

Eight South Tahoe High students commit to play soccer for LTCC

"Women's soccer has arrived," said Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) Women's Soccer Coach Jeremy Evans as he introduced the six South Tahoe High School (STHS) athletes that will be playing for him in the fall.

"I think we will finally be there," Evans said of a team that is primed for post-season play. Not only did he recruit the six young ladies from STHS, he also is adding a Truckee player, one from Reno, a Las Vegas player who was on state championship team for four years and has 14 returnees from his 2016 team.

Jamie Anderson wins Slopestyle at Mammoth Grand Prix

The American snowboarders turned in a stellar performance at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix slopestyle event on Sunday, sweeping both men’s and women’s podiums. Up-and-comer Red Gerard from Silverthorne, Colo., topped the field to take the win for the men, while South Lake Tahoe's Jamie Anderson continued her global domination with a win for the ladies. Kyle Mack (West Bloomfield, MI) and Hailey Langland (San Clemente, CA) each took second while Dylan Thomas (Kingsley, PA) and Julia Marino (Westport, CT) were third.

Eleven South Tahoe High football players on Nevada All State teams

Eleven varsity football players from South Tahoe High are part of the 2016 Class 3A all-state football team.

First team honors went to four of the South Tahoe players. Senior Tommy Cefalu, who just signed to attend Eastern Oregon University next year as a student-athlete is the quarterback of the team. Senior wide receiver Noah Jackson, junior tight end McCallan Castles and junior cornerback Matt Cain were also honored for their play on the field.

Tahoe Grizzlies Pee Wee "A Team" advances to International Silver Stick Hockey Tournament

For the second consecutive year, the Tahoe Grizzlies Pee Wee team are headed to the International Finals after bringing home a championship win from the Silver Stick Regional Tournament in San Jose, Calif.

“I’m extremely proud of this team,” said Grizzlies coach Mike Gunderson. “They’ve worked hard to get this point and have really come together as a team, many have been teammates going on two or more years now. Everyone on the team contributed during the tournament and all were represented on score sheet.”

Construction moving along at new Edgewood Lodge; Reservation center open

The newest lakefront resort being built on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe is set to open in June, 2017, and reservations for the 154 room Edgewood Lodge are already being taken.

On a tour this week of the new lodging property located within the grounds of the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, work crews could be seen working on the swimming pool, the rooms, lobby, spa, restaurant, the stone fence and all other aspects of the resort which will give visitors a new taste of luxury.

STHS girls fall short on bid for consecutive state championship

8:00 p.m. update: The Lady Vikings have fallen short in their bid to be the back-to-back state champions in Nevada 3A Girls Soccer. It took two overtimes in their Friday night semi-final game for the Southern Nevada number one seed, Western High, to win by a score of 2-1.

11/12 update: The Vikings' road to state has ended in Las Vegas. The boys from South Tahoe High suffered a crushing blow with a loss to Desert Pines, 56-7 in the 3A State semifinals.

For the first time in 25 years, the South Tahoe High football team is headed to the Nevada Division 3A State football championship games in Las Vegas this weekend. The Vikings are coming off a victory over rival Truckee to head to Vegas as the number two seed from Northern Nevada.

The 28-20 win over Truckee sends South Tahoe to their first appearance at the state playoffs since 1991.

South Tahoe High pair wins Nevada State Tennis 3A Title

The team of Louis Marin and Mickey Sullivan from South Tahoe High won the Nevada State 3A tennis doubles title Saturday, beating Preston Jorgensen and Boen Huxford from Boulder City, 6-1, 6-2

They began the state tournament on Friday with a match against Adan Cano and Kevin Giron from Desert Springs High. After beating them 6-3, 6-3 they went onto a 9:00 a.m. Saturday match against Zach Larson and Noah Warren from Truckee. Marin and Sullivan beat them 6-3, 6-3, setting them up for the championship game.

The state tennis tournament was held at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center in Truckee.

What we can learn when celebrities & athletes go head-to-head at Lake Tahoe

Maybe there's just no use talking to PGA Tour players about pressure. Their skills exist on an entirely different plateau, and their weekly exposure to seven-figure paychecks and audiences has inured them from experiencing anything like what we mortals feel teeing it up in a club championship. Third phase of Lake Tahoe Airport ramp reconstruction underway

Through grants from the FAA and Caltrans, the Lake Tahoe Airport is currently undergoing the third of five phases of ramp modifications due to accommodate changing aircraft lengths and weights.

The apron that is currently being revamped hasn't been upgraded since 1984.

24-pound fish caught in front of Edgewood during Celebrity Golf Tournament

Catching a glimpse and photo of favorite celebrities weren't the only things being caught over at Edgewood Tahoe this weekend, large Mackinaw were also in on the action.

Capt. Paul Mueller and customers on board his Tahoe Sport Fishing charter were fishing in the water offshore from the American Century Golf Championship on Friday, July 22. Fish weren't biting so Mueller was planning on relocating when he decided, at the last minute, to take another pass at the same spot and go at it differently and alter his technique.

National attention on drunk fan at Celebrity Golf after touching Timberlake's face

What wasn't a very big story has turned into national tabloid fodder through the likes of TMZ after an incident that happened on Saturday at the American Century Golf Championship at Edgewood.

TMZ reported that a fan "slapped" the face of celebrity golfer Justin Timblerlake (JT) as he was walking through Edgewood, surrounded by a mob of fans.

It appears to be more of a touch, and JT, though apparently irritated didn't want to file charges. “Why would you do that?” JT asked the man.

Mark Mulder repeats as American Century Golf Champion

On Sunday, former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder became the first back-to-back winner at the American Century Golf Championship at Edgewood Tahoe since Rick Rhoden accomplished the feat in 2008 and 2009.

Coming from 5 points off the lead on Saturday, Mulder won the annual championship by 5 with the Modified Stableford scoring they use in the tournament. Second place finisher, tennis player Mardy Fish, missed a 12-foot putt for eagle on the 18th hole which would have forced a playoff.

Mulder takes home a trophy and $125,000 for his efforts. Fish, $60,000.

Tee times for American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe

The action at Edgewood Tahoe on Sunday gets underway at 7:35 a.m. when the ladies playing in the 27th annual American Century Championship, Heather LeMaster, Lisa Cornwell and Blair O'Neil, tee off from the first tee. They will be followed by Steve Young, Herm Edwards and Marvin Lewis who start from the tenth tee at 7:40 a.m.

Perhaps the most popular threesome in the final round, Justin Timberlake, Steph Curry and Alfonso Ribeiro, will be teeing off at 9:05 a.m.

Mardy Fish, Jack Wagner and Mike Modano, the leaders, start their found of 18 holes at 9:45 a.m.

Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts wins Korbel Celebrity Spray-Off at Edgewood

The celebrities golfing over at Edgewood for the 27th American Century Championship has the opportunity to stop over the at Korbel booth and participate in the 10th annual “Korbel Celebrity Spray-Off” on Thursday, July 21. This year, the bassist for Rascal Flatts, Jay DeMarcus, won top honors with his cork flying 80 feet.

As the prepared to tee off on the 18th hole, Korbel challenged celebrity and sports superstars to demonstrate their best champagne-popping talents at the Celebrity Spray-Off.

Mardy Fish takes lead at American Century Championship, Wagner in second

Former professional tennis player, and 2004 Olympic silver medalist Mardy Fish took over the lead of the American Century Golf Championship at Edgewood Tahoe on Saturday. Friday's leader, actor Jack Wagner, is just two points off the lead.

"Birdie is what's the name of the game here and this scoring system," said Fish. He birdied all of the par-5 holes and three others, putting him in a good spot for the final round on Sunday.

Fish is in Tahoe with his wife, who is pregnant with a daughter, and 2 1/2 year old son. "It's been a fun week," Fish added.

SnowGlobe extended until 2018; Promoter wants to bring three more events to town annually

The annual SnowGlobe Music Festival is here to stay, at least for now.

During Tuesday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, promoter Chad Donnelly went before the elected officials, asking them for a three year extension of the annual festival until 2019 (though they would ultimately like a deal until 2027), and more money from the City to help with the costs of garbage pick-up and transportation for the three-day event which runs from December 29-31 each year.

What the City gave him was not quite what he was asking for as he got more cash, but less time.

Timberlake jets off both coasts between rounds of Tahoe Celebrity Golf

Justin Timberlake has such a hectic schedule that he's had to fly away from the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe not once, but twice, to head off to other engagements, only to return in time to tee off.

On Wednesday, JT golfed 18 holes in the Harrah's-Amateur tournament.

On Thursday, JT appeared at Comic Con in San Diego as part of the promotion for his upcoming movie, Trolls.

On Friday, he has a 6:50 a.m. tee time in Lake Tahoe, and an evening event, reportedly in Florida.

Jack Wagner takes lead at American Century Golf in Lake Tahoe

During the first round of the 27th annual American Century Championship in South Lake Tahoe, actor Jack Wagner is ahead by three points over NHL Hall of Famer Mike Modano. Last year's winner, and former baseball pitcher Mark Mulder is four points off the lead.

"This weekend is dedicated to Jim Powers," said Wagner. "He was my best friend for 46 years, personal assistant for 34 years, and he passed June 4. He's been up here all 26 years, just handling my stuff."

Flight Deck Sports Bar & Grill at Lake Tahoe Airport reopens with new owners

Views are a given when in South Lake Tahoe, but being able to combine dining, drinking with mountains, blue sky and airplanes is a treat that the new Flight Deck Sports Bar & Grill at the Lake Tahoe Airport is hoping to highlight.

"Getting people out to the airport is a goal," said new co-owner Tina Shannon. "The beauty and the sunsets out here are amazing."

Tina, who along with husband Mike have reopened the Flight Deck, which shares the airport with the government center for South Lake Tahoe. They opened on June 22 and celebrated a grand opening on Wednesday.

Golf and Justin Timberlake fans will have to get up early to follow the popular celebrity over at Edgewood Tahoe on Friday.

Timberlake, paired with good friend Alfonso Ribeiro, will tee off at 6:50 a.m. The singer/actor golfed in Tahoe on Wednesday, then flew to San Diego to participate in Comic Con 2016, and will be back for an early round of golf. Women's long drive record established at Edgewood during celebrity golf action

A drive of 336-yards by the 2013 Women's World Long Drive Champion Heather LeMaster was good enough to establish a world record at elevation during the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe on Tuesday.

LeMaster, a Sacramento native, was one of four contestants to attempt the record.

Defending champ Mark Mulder and Mardy Fish favored to win at American Century

As practice rounds at Edgewood Tahoe begin on Tuesday for the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament, the odds makers have come out with their list of the favorites, and the not-so-favorites.

Former MLB All-Star pitcher Mark Mulder, the defending champion, and newly-retired pro tennis champion Mardy Fish are listed as co-favorites by the Harrah’s and Harveys Race & Sports Book to win the tournament.
