Although they are still an unfortunate rarity, more green gyms are popping up in the United States. They are considered green because their carbon footprint is much lower than the typical huge box gym packed with walls of televisions, rows of cardio equipment (which also have a whole additional slew of TVs), and thousands of tons of carbon-unfriendly stationary equipment. These green gyms tend to be smaller, with the primary carbon footprint generating from their electric usage. Just one treadmill can use anywhere from 500 watts to 1 kilowatt per hour while in use.

Cyclists from far and wide are signing up for the Motherlode Century, being held Sunday May 20, 2012. It promises to be the best bicycle ride Northern California has to offer.

Conveniently staged in the foothills of the beautiful and historic Gold Country, the Motherlode offers three ride options: The Gold Dust (31 miles), The Gold Nugget (67 miles) and the Motherlode (100 miles). All riders will benefit from full SAG support, tasty aid stations, and a delicious post ride dinner on the river.

The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals group seeks three new Board of Director positions: an Assistant Executive Director, Finance and Special Events Director. Application and nominations are being accepted until May 5. The current Board of Directors will conduct interviews, May 7-9, vote and announce the newest additions to the organization mid-May.

The American Century Championship will keep $100,000 in the community that helps make the annual event a success. LIVESTRONG®, the celebrity golf tournament’s nationally designated charity, in partnership with Tahoe South, NBC Sports and American Century Investments has committed funds to benefit South Lake Tahoe area non-profit organizations.

The first Lake Tahoe and Meyers Climbing Festival and Bouldering Competition will be on Saturday, Sept. 17. This first-time event is held in and around the town of Meyers, four miles outside South Lake Tahoe. Get out and climb, meet other members of the climbing community, and celebrate the outdoor adventure lifestyle. Beer garden from Divided Sky and local breweries.
