City of South Lake Tahoe seeking applicants for citizen commissions and boards

The City of South Lake Tahoe is looking to fill vacant seats on four citizen commissions and boards: Planning Commission, Airport Land Use Commission, Building Board of Appeals, and Parks & Recreation Commission. They are soliciting applications for a City Council representative to the El Dorado County Commission on Aging and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Advisory Planning Commission.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are three open seats on the South Tahoe Public Utility Board of Directors this election season, two for a four-year term and one for a two-year term.

South Tahoe Now reached out to the candidates and below are their answers to a set of questions. For the two four-year terms, incumbent Kelly Sheehan is running for reelection, Duane Wallace is running after being appointed to fill Jim Jones's spot on the board until this election, and they are joined by David Peterson.

The annual “Senior of the Year” award will be presented by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on May 19, 2020, at the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 330 Fair Lane in Placerville, and is hosted by the El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging and the Commission on Aging.

Survey for older El Dorado County residents to share experiences

The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Area Agency on Aging (AAA), in partnership with the Commission on Aging, is conducting a needs assessment survey of older adults in the community. El Dorado County residents aged 60 and older are encouraged to complete the survey, but interested residents of any age may provide their feedback. The survey, which is open through January 3, 2020, may be accessed online at: www.surveymonkey.com/r/2020OlderAdultSurvey

El Dorado County Senior of the Year nominations being accepted

Do you know an outstanding older adult or a married couple aged 60 years or older who has performed exemplary work in El Dorado County as a volunteer? Consider nominating the individual(s) for the El Dorado County “Senior of the Year” award.

The annual Senior of the Year award will be presented by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on May 21, 2019, at the Board of Supervisors Chambers located at 330 Fair Lane in Placerville. The award is hosted by the El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging and the Commission on Aging.

Community invited to provide input on Mental Health Services Act annual update

The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Behavioral Health Division invites the public to provide input on the Fiscal Year 2019-20 Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Annual Update. Community members can provide input by attending an upcoming community meeting or by submitting an online survey or an email.

Community meetings to receive input for the MHSA Annual Update are scheduled as follows:
• Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at the Placerville Library, 345 Fair Lane in Placerville

EDC Commission on Aging seeks new member

The Commission on Aging for El Dorado County is currently seeking a new member to fill one vacancy. The Commission strives to attain a balanced geographic representation and applicants are being sought from all areas of the County, including South Lake Tahoe. The Commission plays a very important advisory role to the Area Agency on Aging, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors and the Cities of South Lake Tahoe and Placerville on matters of interest to senior residents. All volunteer positions are by appointment.

Public input sought on Mental Health Services Act

In the 2004 California election, voters passed Proposition 63, the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), mandating a one percent increase in income taxes for individuals with incomes over $1 million to expand mental health services. The MHSA funds mental health services that are "recovery and resiliency" focused to children and their families, transitional age youth, adults and older adults. MHSA programs must provide integrated service experiences that are client and family driven, wellness, recovery and resilience focused, culturally competent, and include community collaboration.

Wendy David now South Lake Tahoe mayor, Austin Sass mayor pro-tem

It was a changing of the guard during Monday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting. Wendy David moved from her position of mayor pro tem to mayor, and Austin Sass took over the second-in-command duties.

Councilmember Tom Davis, who has served as both mayor and mayor pro tem, was also interested in a fifth term in the pro tem spot but the nod went to Sass.

County Commission on Aging looks to fill one vacancy

The El Dorado County Commission on Aging is actively recruiting to fill one vacancy. The Commission plays a very important advisory role to both the Area Agency on Aging and the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on matters concerning senior residents. The Commission focuses its efforts on issues such as:

Development of community centers in strategic areas of the County to ensure provision of accessible services to all senior residents Promotion of services that enable seniors to remain in their homes for as long as possible identification and prevention of elder abuse
