NEWS RELEASE — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has appointed Claudia Vecchio as the first director of the new Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. The Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs is comprised of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, Division of Museums and History, Nevada Arts Council, and the Nevada Indian Commission.

Focus groups reveal Nevada tourism branding challenges

Nevada tourism leaders trying to figure out the best way to brand the Silver State to attract visitors may have a bigger challenge on their hands than they thought. Six focus groups in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, demonstrated little knowledge of the Silver State and its tourism attractions including Lake Tahoe, reports the Las Vegas Sun. Lake Tahoe, Reno to host Chinese Cosmos pageant

Nevada will host 18 contestants from all over the world who are competing in the Miss Chinese Cosmos Semi-Finals, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, chair of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, announced today in a press release.

The event will take place in Reno and Lake Tahoe from Sept. 23-30, 2011. The contest moves around the world each year, last year taking place in Sydney, Australia. This is the first time the pageant has been held in the United States.

TRPA Announces Community Appreciation Day and Lake Spirit Awards

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is hosting a Community Appreciation Day event on Thursday, September 29 from 4 - 7 pm to celebrate the Tahoe Basin community's commitment to protecting Lake Tahoe.

This fun, family event will include bluegrass music by local band, Bison, a free BBQ dinner, activities for the kids, an ice cream social hosted by members of TRPA's Governing Board and Advisory Planning Commission, and demonstration booths explaining TRPA's mission.

The South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission is scheduled to vote today on whether to approve a new gas station, car wash and convenience store at the “Y”
shopping center.
The project would replace the vacant service station at 1020 Emerald Bay Road, next to the Raley’s supermarket, which was recently demolished.

You'll be able to fish wherever you like in California. However, you will need to abide by the rules and regulations that govern whatever water(s) you will be fishing.
