Dead and downed firewood cutting permits will be available starting April 1, on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Carson Ranger District. Forest officials stress that it is extremely important for firewood cutters to pay special attention to the terms and conditions of their permit.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many know Kelly Smith Cassidy as an artist who creates copper and bronze welded sculptures, but now many more will know her as the artist who created a burnbot for Burning Man.

Kelly, who is a seasoned "burner," heard from another that Burning Man had put out a request for proposals for panels and burnbots for the Man Pavilion, all which will be burned in a symbolic ritual on the final day of the popular event on Nevada's Black Rock Desert.

Fuelwood permits in Lake Tahoe Basin good until November 20

Ready to cut some firewood? Time is running out to do so on U.S. Forest Service land in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The last day to purchase fuelwood permit for the is on Friday, November 18 and the last day to cut wood is Sunday, November 20.

Permits cost $20 per cord, with a two-cord minimum purchase and a limit of 10 cords per household. Permits have specific conditions and complete information is provided when the permit is issued. Maps to designated cutting areas are also provided and must be in the permit holder’s possession along with the valid permit.

Woodcutting permits change in Eldorado Forest to allow dead trees to be cut

Woodcutting permits on the Eldorado National Forest have been changed to allow larger standing dead conifer trees to be cut for firewood. A minimum of tTwo cords of wood can be cut for $15 per cord.

"This change in our woodcutting permits will encourage removal of potentially dangerous roadside hazard trees," said forest supervisor Laurence Crabtree. "Fire and bark beetles have left a lot of dead trees which could fall across forest roads, particularly the less traveled roads in the back country."

Lake Tahoe Fuelwood Permits Go On Sale May 19

Fuelwood permits in both South and North Lake Tahoe go on sale next week. They'll start selling permits at the SLT office on Monday, May 19 and the NLT office on Wednesday, May 21.

Permits cost $20 per cord, with a two-cord minimum purchase and a limit of 10 cords per household.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will sell the permits until November 14. The last day to cut wood is November 19, 2014.

Season Draws to a Close For Forest Service Road Accessibility and Firewood Permits
