Vehicular manslaughter charges were filed today by the Douglas County DA Mark Jackson against Judge Michael Gibbons. On August 20, 2013, cyclist Joseph Longo was killed in an accident near Pinenut and East Valley Roads in the Carson Valley. Charges state that Gibbons failed to exercise due care when overtaking or passing Longo who was traveling in the same direction. Gibbons is accused of failing to pass at a safe distance and not using due care to avoid a collision.

It’s not every day Dr. Gregory Eyre, from Barton General Surgery, gets called into Barton Health’s, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Clint Purvance’s office — especially when he’s in-between surgical cases. Health Care Reform continues to be the buzz word around the nation, and with the upcoming presidential election, reform will continue to be among one of the hottest discussion topics. The Wa She Shu It’ Deh Native American Arts Festival at the Valhalla Grand Lawn July 28-29 features traditional American Indian dancers and drum performers, basket weaving displays, art, and great food. The basket weaving competition features over fourteen different categories. The Washoe are highly regarded for their master craftsmanship of baskets and have had several well-known weavers throughout their history, including Dat So La Lee.

Dr. Scott Welker, from Barton Memorial Hospital at South Lake Tahoe performed his first single-incision cholecystectomy (surgical removal of the gallbladder) with the da Vinci Si Surgical System on Wednesday, May 9.

“With all of the added benefits of less pain, less blood loss, shorter hospital stays and a reduced risk of infections, the single-incision allows us to do cholecystectomies via one incision in the umbilicus (navel), which is nearly invisible after it heals,” Dr. Welker said.
