NHP issues nearly 12,000 cell phone-related distracted driving traffic citations
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 01/02/2013 - 8:44amTroopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol issued nearly 12,000 traffic citations to motorists observed talking, texting or reading non-voice communication while operating a motor vehicle on Nevada’s highways in 2012. Thirty of the offenders last year received their second citation for the same offense with 25 of those witnessed on their phone for a third time and cited once more.

June 30, 2012 - 8:00am Although they are still an unfortunate rarity, more green gyms are popping up in the United States. They are considered green because their carbon footprint is much lower than the typical huge box gym packed with walls of televisions, rows of cardio equipment (which also have a whole additional slew of TVs), and thousands of tons of carbon-unfriendly stationary equipment. These green gyms tend to be smaller, with the primary carbon footprint generating from their electric usage. Just one treadmill can use anywhere from 500 watts to 1 kilowatt per hour while in use.

Submitted by Editor on Tue, 04/03/2012 - 4:58pmCARSON CITY – Nevada’s Office of the Military figured it would be money ahead after entering into a contract with a firm to build solar panels on three of its sites around the state to supply it with electricity.
But today officials with the office won approval from the state Board of Examiners to seek $46,284 from a legislative contingency fund to pay excess utility costs. The reason is because the solar energy being provided under the contract is costing the agency more than if it purchased electricity directly from NV Energy.

NV Energy power outage affects Stateline Lake Tahoe area

Electricity was restored at around 8:40 tonight after reportedly going down at around 5:45 p.m. The preliminary cause of the outage was a bad piece of equipment in a substation, said NV Energy spokesman Karl Walquist.
