Parking areas near popular spots for local young people to hang out after dark, Party Rock and Lookout Rock, will now be off limits at night after an update to City Code was approved Tuesday.

On October 13, 2017, several residents of the upper Saddle Road area met with U.S.
Forest Service, police and fire department staff. During the meeting, neighbors
expressed their frustration over the nighttime gatherings that take place in the area. One part of this meeting included a request by the neighbors to limit nighttime activities at nearby Party Rock.

Just like Lake Tahoe, those visiting the Dominican Republic expect to see the beautiful blues shades of the water. Instead, beachgoers this week were greeted by tons of trash floating on top of the ocean, barely moving around with the motion of the waves due to the massive volume.

Parley for the Oceans released a video of what they are calling a "world's largest garbage emergency," showing tons of mostly plastic trash, something that happens every time it rains in the Caribbean country.

One no longer has to leave South Lake Tahoe to get their teaching credential through bachelor's degrees in Liberal Studies and Applied Studies, a Multiple Discipline Teaching Credential and a Masters in Arts in Education.

Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) has teamed up with Brandman University to provide the upper level classes in the new Lisa Maloff University Center starting in Fall, 2018.

There will be an informational presentation by Brandman University on Friday, July 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the LTCC Student Commons.

Dr. Vincent R. Solis is the newest leader at Western Nevada College (WNC), taking the helm as president on July 2, 2018.

Solis is new to Nevada, having come from his latest position as enior vice president of Academic and Student Services at Laredo Community College in Laredo, Texas. Prior to the beginning of the fall term, Solis will be getting to know the college, faculty, staff and community.

Author and grandson of Fred Dangberg Jr., Steve Achard will speak on his book Lost Legacy of Carson Valley, as well as his memories of growing up at the Home Ranch, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Sunday, July 15, at 10:00 am.

The book Lost Legacy of Carson Valley, which Steve Achard co-authored with Conrad Buedel, shares the history of H. F. Dangberg Sr., as well as the rise and fall of one of Nevada’s most prominent pioneer families.

The 4th of July is not only a fun holiday, but it is a very busy one in Lake Tahoe. Due to heavy holiday traffic, Caltrans will suspend their roadwork projects at the lake.

Roadwork on U.S. Highway 50 from the "Y" intersection to the Trout Creek Bridge will be suspended starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 3. The regular weekly construction schedule will resume at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 5.

Although construction will be suspended for the holiday, there will be heavy traffic and work zones will still be set up. Please "Be Work Zone Alert."

Lake Tahoe is one of the clearest lakes in the world, known around the globe for its spectacular scenery. The lake’s water clarity is one of the many attributes that make the Tahoe Basin such an amazing natural resource and a mecca for outdoor recreation.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $22 million project to replace the South Fork American River Bridge in Coloma-Lotus. This project will make seismic improvements to the new bridge, widen the structure to allow for 8-foot shoulders and 6-foot sidewalks, and also make roadway improvements to State Route 49 on either side of the bridge. Completion is expected in mid-August. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled on the highway.

South Lake Tahoe, CA - Starting in Fall 2018, all first-time, full-time California residents or AB540 eligible students attending Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) will pay no tuition their first year. The Lake Tahoe College Promise is available to any student who is attending college for the first time. LTCC offers associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and vocational certificates in more than 40 areas of study, including Psychology, Business, Fire Science, Culinary Arts, and Allied Health.

The Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe club awarded students from Lake Tahoe Community College, South Tahoe High and Whittell High School with $21,000 in scholarships during their annual Rewards for Excellence Scholarship program Wednesday.

A South Lake Tahoe graduate is heading to the podium at the University of Southern California (USC) on Friday, draped with honors cords, award medallions and a pin that will signify her as the 2018 Class Valedictorian.

Rose Campion, 22, will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, and a Bachelor of Arts in History. The double major will leave her USC career behind with a 3.98 GPA.

In a school of 18,000 students and around 5,000 other soon-to-be graduates, it would seem almost impossible for a young woman from South Lake Tahoe to end up in the top spot on graduation day.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - There will be single lane closures on Highway 50 near Cave Rock starting Monday, May 7, as Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) completes roadside slope repairs.

We can always count on either Supervisors Novasel or Ranalli starting off each VHR public meeting discussing VHR’s with the reminder that VHR’s are an allowed use for single family dwellings under TRPA’s land use Ordinances. They have attempted to make us believe the word of God (TRPA) has set this in stone, and that we should all now work together to allow these nuisance businesses to coexist in our neighborhoods.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board on Wednesday approved a temporary, transitional shorezone permitting process that will take effect in May and remain in place until January 2019 as the agency works to develop and adopt an updated Shoreline Plan this fall.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Students will soon be able to graduate from South Tahoe High, move into Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) for their associate degree, then head over to the new Lisa Maloff University Center for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts, Global Business Management, Psychology, and possibly in the near future, Ski Resort Management.

Sierra Nevada College was the first school to offer four-year degrees at LTCC, and now there will be another.

Unity at the Lake believes that every single child is special, that they make a difference and that they have infinite resources within them. Every Sunday Unity offers a youth empowerment program concurrent with their regular Sunday Service.

In keeping with this, they invite all children in the community to a special musical program, facilitated by Jodene Hurt, a local child educator, on Sunday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) works on roads at Lake Tahoe, mainly during summer months. The following is their schedule for the week of April 23-28, 2018.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

Lake Tahoe’s shoreline is a place of majestic beauty with sandy beaches and secluded, boulder-strewn coves. It’s where residents and visitors alike go to enjoy Tahoe’s famously cold, clear water, whether they are dipping their toes in for the first time or launching their boat, kayak, or paddleboard for a daily outing.

In the South Lake Tahoe public safety communication system installed in 1965, there are three major problems:

1) There are three systems working totally separately: the police, fire and public works departments;

2) Trees have grown since the system was installed 53 years ago, now blocking signals through the town;

3) Having functioning radio frequencies near water is challenging.

Ground was broken recently on the new 11-acre El Dorado County Sheriff's Public Safety Facility, a project that will cost $68 million, a low interest $57 million loan from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and $11 million from the County.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The cause of death of the Sacramento resident whose body was found in the Upper Truckee River in South Lake Tahoe on April 9, 2017 has been as accidental drowning by the El Dorado County Coroner.

Pamela Suswinsky, 62, was in town with her ex-husband and friend, Henry Suwinsky, and they were staying at the Motel 6 on Lake Tahoe Blvd. Henry said they came to town because she wanted her dog, Wilson, a 150-plus pound Newfoundland to experience snow for the first time.
