V & T Railway Polar Express canceled, replaced with Santa's Drive-Thru Village
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/21/2020 - 5:10pmAs a result of COVID-19, the V&T Railway Commission has announced that fan favorite, Polar Express, has been canceled for the 2020 season. In its place, the railway will host Santa’s Drive-Thru Village, a socially distanced holiday event, December 11 through 13 and December 18 through 24.
Four local families given special Christmas through Heavenly Holidays donation

Identified through SOS Outreach, the kids met with the jolly Santa Claus and were given bags of gifts to take home.
Walk the Halls of Live Violence Free

Live Violence Free is inviting the community to drop by their offices for their annual holiday event, Walk the Halls, on Thursday, December 12 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The longstanding tradition of a decorated fire engine continues in South Lake Tahoe as the SLT Fire Rescue team sets out on nightly travels through neighborhoods December 10-24, 2018. Each nigh the South Lake Tahoe Christmas Engine will leave Station 3 at the Y at 5:00 p.m. and the firefighters will be passing out candy canes to everyone who comes out to see them!

Tuesday December 11 - Glenwood area
Wednesday December 12 - Keys Blvd/State streets
Thursday December 13 - Barton/Tahoe Island park
Magical display of themed Christmas trees at South Lake Tahoe holiday event
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/30/2017 - 11:23pmThe grand hall at MontBleu Casino Resort has been turned into a holiday paradise, a winter wonderland with the main attraction being the specialty Christmas trees.
On Thursday, local celebrities and media strolled by each of the designer trees, selecting those that won top honors of Most Elegant, Best Theme, Most Creative and Best of Show.
The excellent work on each made it almost impossible to come up with a winner, but four were chosen after much deliberation. Each tree will be paired with a special prize package during a live auction at Saturday's Gala.

A brand new holiday event in South Lake Tahoe this Labor Day weekend at the Heavenly Village. Starting on Friday, September 1 and wrapping up on Sunday, September 3, 2017.
This will be a full weekend of family friendly entertainment including a carnival midway, performers, car show, art show and two live music stages.
Carnival themed rides, food, and games for the Labor Day weekend event.

Peanutcracker Returns to Carson City and Reno

December 6, 2014 - 2:00pm The Sierra Nevada Ballet will present the popular “Peanutcracker – The Story in a Nut Shell” on Dec. 6 in the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Based on Lev Ivanov‘s original ballet “The Nutcracker,” Peanutcracker is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet who wrote and choreographed this traditional holiday show.

Family Night at Festival of Trees and Lights

December 5, 2014 - 5:00pm Stroll through a holiday wonderland with thousands of twinkling lights on decorated Christmas trees and holiday decor! Vote for your favorite tree in the Festival's "People's Choice Award" contest. Settle down to watch the entertainment, bid in the silent auction, enter the raffle, get a family photo with Santa, and take the kids to Teddy Bear Hospital. Kids can stop by the Gingerbread Junction, where they can write a letter to Santa and drop it in the giant mailbox for express delivery to the North Pole.

Jazz For the Holidays Show Set for December 20th

December 20, 2013 - 7:30pm With the holiday season now in full swing, it’s only appropriate that the Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) brings Jazz for the Holidays to Northern Nevada for all to enjoy on December 20, 2013 at The Nightingale Hall - University of Nevada. Accompanying the accomplished musicians of the RJO are vocalists Cami Thompson and Kenn Pettiford, international Tap star Sam Weber and performers from the Sierra Nevada Ballet under the direction of Rosine Bena. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Vern Scarbrough, will open the holiday performance which starts at 7:30 pm.

The idea is to have every business on Highway 50 lit up end to end from the big tree at the “Y” to Stateline for the entire holiday season.
