The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin the sale of personal use fuelwood permits at the Forest Supervisor’s Office in South Lake Tahoe on Monday, June 3, 2019. Permits cost $20 per cord, with a two-cord minimum purchase and a limit of 10 cords per household.

Permits have specific conditions and complete information is provided when the permit is issued. Maps to designated cutting areas are provided and must be in the permit holder’s possession along with the valid permit when cutting.

Not very often does a new car/truck come along that gets my attention as the new Honda Passport did. It is certainly not a rebadged Isuzu as the original “rush to market” first Passport was.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Anyone passing by the entrance to Round Hill Pines on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe during the summer months knows the traffic and safety issues created by drivers turning into the popular beachfront resort.

On Tuesday night there was a public meeting held to gather ideas on a solution to the ingress and egress issues the road has along Highway 50 in this area. Representatives from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), US Forest Service, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Federal Highway Administration(FHWA) were on hand to lead the discussion.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – New boating safety programs are coming online at Lake Tahoe this summer, according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA).

Additional enforcement of no-wake zones and excessive boat noise under TRPA’s Shoreline Program are two measures being taken to protect the lake and non-motorized watercraft and swimmers. Boat inspections fees are also being adjusted for the first time in seven years to better safeguard the lake from aquatic invasive species, and sticker fees now include a $12 fee as part of the Shoreline Program.

Sure, I like most of the vehicles I test, but there are some that stand out. Then from those stand out motor vehicles, we can find the best of the best. When you factor in price or bang for the buck, that best of the best gets very small, maybe two or three vehicles. The new Genesis G70 is one of them. Third generation Honda Pilot has been with us about three years, commencing with the model year 2016. Transmissions also got better with a standard six-speeder (one extra gear) and in the Touring and Elite trim lines, you’ll get a nine-speeder, which picks achieves about one mpg in the ratings.

It’s hard to believe that it has been only 25 years since Kia came to the U.S. with the 88 hp Sephia. The first TV ad showed a Kia Sephia following a Honda Civic through the streets of Los Angeles (in fast motion) demonstrating it could do anything the Honda Civic could do.

2019 Volvo XC90 AWD Inscription, inscribed to be the best, but?

Volvo brought us the XC90 in model year 2003 and it won the Motor Trend SUV of the year. It was a trick vehicle and one of my favorites, especially when equipped with the spectacular 4.4L, 311 hp Yamaha V-8 engine. It was about the perfect SUV with great styling from Volvo designer, Doug Frasher, a man responsible for many great Volvo designs including the S80.

Snowglobe 2018 is now in the books. There have been some successes as well as some difficulties. This year saw the introduction of professional sound engineers to help reduce the sound and new field protection to prevent further damage to our new play fields. The sound is reported to have been improved for many though the people who live nearest this event in Pioneer Village, along the Bijou Meadow, around Johnson Lane and in Sierra Tract continue to be bombarded by three days of sound.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many see the annual SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe differently - some as a concert, others as noise. What many don't know is the sustainable platform organizers have established over the years.

Each year SnowGlobe and their partners Waste-Free Earth, Chris's Cleaning, Full Circle Compost and South Tahoe Refuse work together on reducing and reusing the waste created at the festival, and with the Sugarpine Foundation to plant trees for future forests.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thousands of music fans and dozens of performers are headed to South Lake Tahoe for the 8th annual SnowGlobe Music Festival from December 29-31. Before they get here, hundreds of workers are spending many hours preparing the scene from the delivery and installation of stages, tents, electrical cables, ski jumps, trailers, vehicles and port-a-potties.

Snowglobe 2018 is here! We are asking local residents to please give the new sound
engineering a chance. The Snowglobe organization has committed to changes this year and they are hoping to reduce the sound to livable levels. The sound restrictions for this event remain the same and the City’s reporting process remains the same as in previous years. The following information is provided to help local residents.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In less than one week thousands of electronic dance music and festival fans will flock to South Lake Tahoe for th eighth annual SnowGlobe Music Festival which runs December 29-31.

Before anything started to be assembled at the Community Playfields on Al Tahoe Blvd., which are home to SnowGlobe, three different types of mats went onto the field surface to protect it from damage, almost 240,000 square feet total. In 2017 the new fields suffered major damange before local youth ever got a chance to play on them, something SnowGlobe organizers repaired.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Property Owners Group has a court date Monday, December 24 to try and get a temporary restraining order against the City of South Lake Tahoe's implementation of Measure T.

The annual SnowGlobe Music Festival is fast approaching. The SnowGlobe organization has committed to protecting the fields and is working to engineer the sound to reduce the impact to our local residents. They have agreed to reduced hours the first two nights in addition to other actions. These actions should be applauded as they were under no obligation to change anything as per their contract. Again we (NoGlobe) thank SnowGlobe for working with us. The SnowGlobe organization has acted as a responsible business partner.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A fire that destroyed a hallway, reading room and teacher's room on Sunday, November 11 was just seconds away from engulfing all of Sierra House Elementary. Had it not been for the quick response by Lake Valley Fire Protection District the discussion would be about replacing the 44-year-old South Lake Tahoe school rather than the processes involved to get it cleaned up and opened in just two days.

LAKE TAHOE, CA/NV - It's been 38 years in the making. On Thursday, November 15, 2018, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Board of Directors unanimously approved the final joint environmental document for the US 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project, also known as the "Loop Road."

Last week, the board of the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) unanimously approved the same document, the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS/EIS).

Election season can be an exciting time of year with anticipation of the possibilities, but this year in South Lake Tahoe election season is full of negativity that has pitted neighbor against neighbor. One year ago I wrote an editorial "Use the election to create a community of collaboration and teamwork," and today I urge continuance of community, collaboration and teamwork.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Years of collaboration with a variety of partners have brought to completion two major initiatives for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA). During their governing board meeting on October 24 a new Shoreline Plan was unanimously approved as was a comprehensive package of changes to the agency’s development rights system.
