Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows merger complete

The previously announced transaction between KSL Capital Partners and JMA Ventures which joins Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows under one operating company has officially closed. This announcement affirms that skiers and riders can access Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows’ 6,000 acres, 44 lifts and over 270 trails on one lift ticket or season pass. The two resorts will be connected by convenient, complimentary shuttles that will provide transportation between the two resorts.

“Since announcing the merger, the Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley joint pass products –the Tahoe Super Pass and Tahoe Super Six, and Squaw Valley’s $50 million Renaissance, the response from our guests has been overwhelmingly positive” said Andy Wirth, Squaw Valley’s president and CEO.“The opportunity to experience these two incredible mountains, each with their own unique spirit and character, through one pass and one ticket has resonated deeply with our guests,” said Wirth. Wirth will take the helm as the president and CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, LLC, the newly formed parent company of both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.

Annual Winter Swap at MontBleu to support Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the 23rd Annual Ski and Snowboard Swap at MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at South Shore Lake Tahoe Nov. 18-19. Proceeds will benefit the Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides skiing and snowboarding programs and events for regional youth and local middle school and high school students.

An anonymous donor who presented $25,000 to the Thunderbird Preservation Society has offered a second donation for the same amount on the condition the public can match it by Thanksgiving, according to a news release.

Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation Food Fest on Oct. 8

The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation's annual Food Fest will be Saturday, October 8, 6:30 to 10 PM, at Harrah's Convention Room. More than 18 local eateries plus area beer and wine suppliers will be serving there. Also, there will be a silent and live auction with items ranging from art to food to exotic vacation accommodations. Advance tickets are $35 each, available at each local LTUSD school, at the LTUSD District Office on Al Tahoe Blvd., and at the Fox gas station on Highway 50 at Takela.

Tahoe Toy Run

The 21st annual Tahoe Toy Run roll through South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, Oct. 1, The South Lake Tahoe event is a major fundraiser for Christmas Cheer, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food to needy families and Christmas toys to underprivileged children. Motorcycles will start at the Horizon Casino at Stateline beginning at 10 a.m. and parade down Highway 50, led by Santa Claus, to the Lake Tahoe Airport. Entertainment will include raffle prizes, auction, barbecue, and live music featuring the Cash Only band and Deep Fryed Mojo playing from noon to 8 p.m.
