SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Showers and thunderstorms will develop each afternoon and evening into at least the middle of next week according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Winds will remain light except for afternoon zephyr breezes and the occasional outflow winds from thunderstorms. Any strong storms that develop can produce outflow winds over 40 mph, heavy rain, and hail. If heavy rain lingers over steep terrain or a recently burned slope, some flash flooding and/or debris flows can occur.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The calendar says the week before Memorial Day, but Mother Nature isn't too keen on letting summer get a start in Lake Tahoe.

A late-season storm will bring gusty winds, below-average temperatures, mountain snow, and periods of valley rain for the rest of today through Tuesday. Cloud cover hangs around into Wednesday keeping temperatures below seasonal averages with a few showers possible. Winds increase Thursday ahead of another system
which could bring a second round of cooler temperatures and scattered showers back to the region for Friday and Saturday.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Summer-like weather around Lake Tahoe is gone for now. There is a Lake Wind Advisory in place for Lake Tahoe from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday. Stronger winds will be north of US50 and east of US395. The winds will bring a cooling trend as a low-pressure system reaches the northwest U.S. coast. From Tuesday through Thursday, below-average temperatures are expected with breezy winds and chances for rain and high elevation snow showers mainly near the Sierra and north of Interstate 80.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The may be a wet end to the week in South Lake Tahoe with some cooler temperatures that will dip below normal Monday then warm again by mid-week. Low pressure, almost cutoff, will move into the region starting Thursday. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a Winter Storm Warning in place for the Lake Tahoe Basin through Tuesday, March 17 at 11:00 a.m. Expect heavy snow with additional snow accumulations through Tuesday of 4 to 10 inches and 12 to 18 inches above 7000 feet. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After several days of warmth, a cold front will be ushering in a pattern shift for this weekend with drops in temperatures by almost 20 degrees. Expect increasing southwest winds Friday into Saturday with the strongest winds expected to be near and north of US-50 where gusts of 35 to 45 mph are likely. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A ridge of high pressure is building off the southwest coast, one that will bring light wind and warm daytime temperatures with overnight inversions ot Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Before it gets here though there is a small system moving through the area that brings a chance of rain and snow to Lake Tahoe at the beginning of the week.

Each day this week will see above-average temperatures. The average daytime high for this week is 40 with a low of 23.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It will be a dry start to the week with a weak system dropping into the region late Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing a chance of snow to the Lake Tahoe Basin and Sierra Crest. The next weather system next weekend is system is expected to be colder, wetter, and stronger than recent storms, but still an overall average storm for the region. Impacts will likely include moderate snow totals for the Sierra, lighter accumulations across western Nevada, some travel disruptions possible for aviation and ground routes, and some gusty winds.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has been windy in Lake Tahoe since Saturday morning, and the wind was ahead of the next storm which is slated to enter the Lake Tahoe Basin Sunday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service (NWS) is in place from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Snow and rain showers will continue in the Sierra with moderate to heavy snow accumulating above 7000 feet through Sunday. This storm will continue to produce a mix of snow, rain, and possibly ice for Sierra valleys and out across western Nevada until Monday. After a breather on Tuesday, more precipitation is on the way for the middle of next week and next weekend.

9:30 p.m. update: The National Weather Service has upgraded the storm to a Winter Weather Warning from 4:00 p.m. Saturday to 10:00 a.m. Monday. Heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches, except 1 to 4 feet above 7000 feet. Winds gusting 25 to 40 mph, except 60 to 100 mph over exposed ridges.

Snow is expected to mix with, or change to, rain for Tahoe Basin valleys Sunday, with Donner and Echo Summits possibly mixing with rain Sunday night into Monday.

5:00 p.m. Update: Expect a snowy night and slow-moving over roads in the Sierra. Chains controls on US50 are now up starting in Cedar Grove, west of Pollock Pines, at Pioneer on SR88, and above Gold Run on I80.

At this hour, traffic is at a standstill on I80 after multiple spinouts and crashes all the way to the California-Nevada state line.

CHP is also reporting some issues on US50 west of Echo Summit with two spots were cars are off the roadway, as well as SR88 near Christmas Valley.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A potent winter storm is becoming more likely for Thanksgiving Week and the National Weather Service in Reno (NWS - Reno) has issued a Special Weather Statement or the holiday week. Heavy snow is probable for the Sierra starting late Tuesday afternoon and through the day Wednesday. This is a cold storm and will lower snow levels to all valley floors by Tuesday night with accumulating snows possible.

pressure weakens at the end of the week with more cloud cover and cooling daytime

A change in the overall weather pattern is expected in the long term as the ridge of high pressure that has been locked over the west coast for the last few weeks begins to weaken. Warm fall temperatures on tap for Monday after a cool morning with light winds. It begins to change Tuesday with increasing winds ahead of a strong, dry cold front. Some lake concerns are possible with the stronger winds.

as a trough of low pressure moves across our region. Dry and warm conditions will return Wednesday through Saturday as a flat ridge moves across the western US and the Intermountain West, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

After a period of warm and dry weather late this week, some models are hinting at a trough moving into the western US early next week, which could bring breezy winds and cooling temperatures to our area Sunday into Monday.
