California Senate appoints Bill Yeates to TRPA Governing Board

William “Bill” Yeates, a California attorney with 34 years of experience in environmental law, has joined the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board following an appointment by the California Senate Rules Committee.

The seat is one of 14 voting positions on the Lake Tahoe environmental planning agency’s board - seven representing California and seven representing Nevada. One board seat, appointed by the President of the United States, is non-voting.

Barton Health's Chief Nursing Officer asks for community support to help pass AB900 on Tuesday

Dear Community Members, 

In recent months, Barton Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility has been challenged with keeping patients, staff and the facility in its entirety, safe from the effects of the California senate bill, AB97.

If passed, this bill would create devastating cuts to reimbursement for Medi-Cal services provided by distinct part skilled nursing facilities (DP/SNFs) throughout the state, including South Lake Tahoe’s only long- term-care-facility located at Barton Memorial.

LTCC Community Forum to Discuss Intercollegiate Soccer Program

Lake Tahoe home prices jump in first quarter

The Lake Tahoe real estate market is off to a strong start in 2013, experiencing a 34 percent increase in median home price and a 53 percent leap in average price. Sales volume around the lake is up 61 percent, primarily due to a 133 percent jump in homes sold for more than $1 million. The figures were part of a quarterly report released by Lake Tahoe-based real estate company Chase International.

Liberty Utilities offers high school, college scholarships

Liberty Utilities is pleased to announce the establishment of annual academic scholarships for eligible high school and college students within its Lake Tahoe service territory.

The seven schools participating in the new scholarship program are South Tahoe High School, Loyalton High School, Douglas High School (students residing in Alpine County only), Coleville High School, North Tahoe High School and Portola High School, as well as Lake Tahoe Community College.

Tahoe Fund receives $28,351 from Vail Resorts Dollar Donation Program

The Tahoe Fund, Lake Tahoe’s non-profit dedicated to funding environmental improvement projects, received a $28,351 check from Vail Resorts atop Northstar Resort on Friday.

United Way partners with grants to help Lake Tahoe area agencies

Several Lake Tahoe area nonprofit organizations and agencies will receive financial aid this year through partnerships announced Monday by the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.

The partnerships are aimed to address issues identified in each of the Lake Tahoe area communities, said Karen Barsell, CEO and president of United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.

The Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) has named Nevada State Bank, “Most Valuable Partner, ” one of the NRHA’s highest awards to a bank or lending institution.

“Nevada State Bank has been instrumental in providing WISH program funding for the NRHA,” said Gary Longaker, NRHA Executive Director. “The money comes from an award by the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco and Nevada State Bank has been an important player in bringing these dollars into our region to help young rural families go from renters to first time home buyers,” he said.
