The press release announcing the resignation of Rochelle Nason as executive director of the League to Save Lake Tahoe consisted of the usual PR fluff — statements from the president of the board praising her efforts over the years and statements from Nason herself casting the matter as a purely personal decision.
South Lake Tahoe Finance Department Recognized for Accounting
Submitted by Li Terrell on Sat, 10/15/2011 - 3:34pmThe Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada has awarded the City of South Lake Tahoe the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the City's FY 2010 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). According to a city press release, this certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Remains found confirmed by family as Marie Hanson; Services on Saturday at Sierra Community Church

Services will be held this Saturday, October 15th at Sierra Community Church, Sierra Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe at noon. More info to follow.
UPDATE 3:52PM: Searchers have found skeletal remains and jewelry in an area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest where a South Lake Tahoe woman, Marie Hanson, was last seen during the Rainbow Family gathering. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Monday that searchers would continue to look for other evidence to link the remains and jewelry to Hanson, 54, reported missing by family since July 9. Lake Tahoe, Reno to host Chinese Cosmos pageant
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 09/19/2011 - 5:10pmNevada will host 18 contestants from all over the world who are competing in the Miss Chinese Cosmos Semi-Finals, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, chair of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, announced today in a press release.
The event will take place in Reno and Lake Tahoe from Sept. 23-30, 2011. The contest moves around the world each year, last year taking place in Sydney, Australia. This is the first time the pageant has been held in the United States.

Long-time League to Save Lake Tahoe director resigns

League Program Director Carl Young will serve as interim executive director, with Nason serving as a senior advisor, until a new executive director has been selected.

According to Sheriff Kenny Furlong, the names of those wounded are not going to be released at this time.
One of those wounded is Wally Gunderson, husband of Florence Donovan-Gunderson, who died in the attack.
Injunction denied in Angora burn area restoration

A three-person panel of the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that an emergency injunction was not needed after a U.S. District Court judge in Sacramento, Garland Burrell, upheld the agency's environmental
analysis. The suit was brought on by Earth Island Institute and Center for Biological Diversity over the protection of a rare black-backed woodpecker.

The League to Save Lake Tahoe and the city of South Lake Tahoe are engaged in a tennis match worthy of the U.S. Open. A volley of charges and counter-charges have been flying back and forth regarding the League's recent lawsuit againt the city over the city's recently adopted general plan.
The plan guides overall growth and development within the city.
