2019 project to reroute Upper Truckee River through South Lake Tahoe marsh
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/13/2018 - 3:23pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Money is on its way to South Lake Tahoe to restore the Upper Truckee Marsh, the largest remaining wetland in the Sierra Nevada, and reverse damage created by decades of development.
The California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) announced Thursday they received $1,700,066 from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife towards their project to redirect the Upper Truckee River to its historic network of channels through the Marsh. Water flowing through the Marsh will slow down, allowing sediment to settle instead of reaching Lake Tahoe.

El Dorado County Planning staff and Supervisor Sue Novasel will be at the Freel Perk Coffee Shop on Wednesday, September 19 to chat about the County's proposed Meyers Advisory Council.
Interested citizens can stop by at any between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
Novasel and staff will be available to discuss the Advisory Council and answer questions about the process to establish it. If you cannot attend, call 530.573.7905 for any questions and comments.

STPUD looks to pave way for affordable housing projects in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/10/2018 - 12:02amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On Thursday, the South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) Board of Directors discussed changing their administrative code to allow for the transfer of sewer and water units from one parcel to another in order to encourage the building of affordable housing projects.
Since 2012, the transfer of the sewer units have not been allowed by STPUD, but with the current lack of affordable housing on the South Shore the board will look to approve a change of the code at their September 20, 2018 meeting.

South Lake Tahoe roadwork schedule to change after Labor Day weekend
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/29/2018 - 2:33pmDue to heavy traffic expected in Lake Tahoe for the Labor Day weekend, Caltrans will suspend roadwork for the holiday, but there will be big changes in their work schedule starting Tuesday, September 4.
In South Lake Tahoe, roadwork on U.S. Highway 50 from Winnemucca Avenue to Silver Dollar Avenue will be suspended starting Friday, August 31 at 8:00 a.m. and will resume on Tuesday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m.
Although Caltrans construction is not happening during Labor Day weekend, there will be heavy traffic and work zones will still be set up. Please "Be Work Zone Alert."

Under the program, every motorized watercraft is inspected to ensure it is clean, drained, and dry and not carrying aquatic invasive species before launching at Tahoe.
Conservancy and USFS working on 'good neighbor' agreement for urban lots
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/13/2018 - 9:51pmA Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) agreement between the California Tahoe Conservancy and U.S. Forest Service is in the works that would allow the Conservancy to begin maintaining and restoring USFS urban lots in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
There are less than 2,200 urban lots that can fall into this agreement, most of which are less than one-acre and located near lots the Conservancy already owns and maintains.

Trees growing into navigable airspace at airport, bid accepted for removal
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/09/2018 - 11:19pmTrees on the 46.52 acre Lake Tahoe Airport property will soon be removed as required (and overdue) by the California Department of Transportation Division of Aeronautics. It has been 11 years since trees have been removed on the property and there is increasing threat into the navigable airspace at north end of runway from trees. The aircraft that frequent the airport would be unable to takeoff with the increased growth.
For the past five years, the department has issued letters of correction to remove multiple tree obstructions on the runway.
National Forest Foundation receives nearly $13 million for forest restoration work in Tahoe/Truckee

Tahoe Keys corporation yard to move from Upper Truckee River marsh
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/08/2018 - 11:59pmThe Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA) will be moving their corporation yard from a 2.21-acre parcel of environmentally sensitive land to a developable 0.99-acre parcel adjacent to the Tahoe Keys Marina.
On Wednesday, the California Tahoe Conservancy Board authorized their staff to move forward with an agreement with TKPOA. This move allows the Conservancy to restore the site as part of its Upper Truckee Marsh restoration project, one of the largest and most important restoration projects in the history of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
CAL FIRE awards $27.5 million to reduce wildfire risks

Our Lake Tahoe Basin firefighters are responding to both local and national wildfires and providing assistance to those in need. I am very proud of each one and know their families go through added stress during their absence.
This time of year, wildfire suppression can overtake our thoughts and activities, however, a great amount of work is occurring around the Lake Tahoe Basin to create more resilient forests.

Steve Teshara named president of California Association of Councils of Governments

Teshara will serve as the president of the California Association of Councils of Governments (CALCOG), a group whose membership includes 47 regional governments involved in the planning, funding, and development of the state’s transportation infrastructure.
He has been representing TTD on the CALCOG Board.

Solis is new to Nevada, having come from his latest position as enior vice president of Academic and Student Services at Laredo Community College in Laredo, Texas. Prior to the beginning of the fall term, Solis will be getting to know the college, faculty, staff and community.

Lake Tahoe area roadwork July 1 - 7
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/02/2018 - 4:13pmThe 4th of July is not only a fun holiday, but it is a very busy one in Lake Tahoe. Due to heavy holiday traffic, Caltrans will suspend their roadwork projects at the lake.
Roadwork on U.S. Highway 50 from the "Y" intersection to the Trout Creek Bridge will be suspended starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 3. The regular weekly construction schedule will resume at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 5.
Although construction will be suspended for the holiday, there will be heavy traffic and work zones will still be set up. Please "Be Work Zone Alert."

Old motel project in Kings Beach Town Center gets needed development rights
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/22/2018 - 1:57pmAn old, closed motel in the Kings Beach Town Center will be transformed into condominiums after the California Tahoe Conservancy Board yesterday approved the sale and transfer of up to two residential development rights (RDRs) needed for the project.
Located on Beach Street and State Route 28, the transfer will facilitate the Woodvista Redevelopment Project which will create seven units in three buildings, including 2 two-story triplex residential structures. They already had five of the needed RDRs.
Each RDR goes for $5,000.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $22 million project to replace the South Fork American River Bridge in Coloma-Lotus. This project will make seismic improvements to the new bridge, widen the structure to allow for 8-foot shoulders and 6-foot sidewalks, and improve the roadway on both sides of the bridge. Completion is expected in mid-August. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled on the highway:
Soroptimists of Tahoe Sierra give away 3,200 books to local students
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/15/2018 - 12:12amThe Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra club members got together this week to give away 3.200 books to K-8 students in Lake Tahoe Unified School District, and at Zephyr Cove Elementary and Whittell High School.
This is an annual project for the club, spearheaded by long time member Cookie Rork. Literacy is a key goal of the club, and a book bag and book to take home for the summer encourages reading for fun.
Teachers provide the club with individual reading levels of their students and the orders are filled.
Famous clarity of Lake Tahoe sharply drops
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/13/2018 - 6:26pmThe epic clarity of Lake Tahoe was measured at an average of 59.7 feet in 2017, a 9.5 foot drop from the previous year and 10.3 feet lower than the five-year average according to the annual report compiled by the Tahoe Environmental Research Center at the University of California, Davis.
This measurement surpasses the previous lowest level of 64.1 feet which was recorded in 1997, but far below the record high of over 100 feet in the mid-1960s.
Linking Tahoe website aims to help relieve traffic congestion

The goal of www.LinkingTahoe.com is to increase public awareness of travel options for people to get to, from, and around the Tahoe Basin and encourage more people to walk, bike, use transit, take water shuttles, and choose off-peak times to drive to better manage congestion on the region’s roads.

For 25 years the Club has featured leadership events, community service projects, club meetings and recreational trips. For the past four years, Larry Lambdin, the Club’s mentor/leader, has had Club Live sponsor a Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment and offer three to four of the clubs members the opportunity help those dealing with poverty.
