Best of Lake Tahoe snowsports season coming up now; storms line up for weekend skiing
Submitted by Sam Bauman on Wed, 03/14/2012 - 4:04pmOK, so it hasn't been the best snowsport season so far, but hold on, more snow is coming with storms over this weekend and we'll be able to ski off-piste without worrying about slightly hidden rock and logs. And on top of that, it's spring skiing, always the best of the year. Forget those crowds of December and January, don't recall those icy January days when the wind howled. It's spring skiing, lightly clad with plenty of sun for sitting on the lodge deck.

Plenty of snow at Lake Tahoe for spring skiing, snowboarding
Submitted by Sam Bauman on Fri, 03/09/2012 - 7:49amIt's been a weird ski and riding season, for sure. One indication is that Heavenly Mountain Resort is only operating the Boulder base lodge and the Boulder and North Bowl lifts on weekends. In all the years I taught at Boulder never has had a shutdown like this. Too bad because lots of locals liked Boulder as out-of-towners didn't go there very often. Ski Area Reality: Corporatocracy Strikes Again
Submitted by Editor on Sat, 02/25/2012 - 12:07pmAs the news spread on Wednesday morning that Vail Resorts had purchased Kirkwood Mountain Resort, there was, naturally, a genuine concern for one the future of the one of the most iconic ski areas in the American West. As someone who made a personal decision a few years ago to stop supporting a corporate-owned ski resort (Heavenly) and start buying my pass at one of the last independent ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe area (Kirkwood) – the fact that Kirkwood is a better mountain for all the right reasons didn’t hurt either – this news affected me, but it did not shock me.
