CHP to continue testing electronic closure of roads in Meyers

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) electronic closure testing on two roads in the Meyers area this weekend is working but a glitch in the system will continue to direct visitors in the area through neighborhoods as they make their way west towards Sacramento and the Bay Area.

Snow and traffic continue to cause problems on Lake Tahoe roads

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.- For the third straight weekend snow has been measured in feet instead of inches around Lake Tahoe, causing issues for both residents and travelers in the Sierra.

When open, there has been a constant flow of both westbound and eastbound vehicles over I80 and US50. Reports of 10-15 hour trips from the Bay Area have been common.

Current road conditions:

US50
Chains Required, All Vehicles Except 4-Wheel Drive with Snow Tires - on US-50 from mile post 52.1 in El Dorado County to mile post 70.6 in El Dorado County in California.

Letter: Solution to Meyers traffic problems

We are not unique in the fact that traffic apps have been showing shortcuts and causing headaches in neighborhoods, which have become freeways filled with people speeding through them to "save" up to a minute on their commute.

We do not have the luxury of support from our elected officials as other communities do, so we must come up with a solution ourselves.

Meyers is under siege every weekend with tourists trying to get home after a long weekend of enjoying what we sometimes take for granted and they are using traffic apps to try to get around the gridlock.

Road Beat: 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, electrifying gasoline

Mitsubishi’s Outlander is an outstanding vehicle and value. I gave it very high marks is most categories especially bang for the buck when I tested it about five months ago. With only a 2.4L, 166 hp inline four-banger, it performed admirably. So, what would happen when Mitsu adds a PHEV battery (12 kwh) to the mix? The answer from my numbers is not exceptional.

CHP advises motorists to not travel to Lake Tahoe this weekend

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The stories of 10-15 hours to get to Lake Tahoe from the Bay Area on Friday were not isolated, and many of the repeat reports are occurring on Saturday.

Epic ski conditions have beckoned visitors to the mountains over the three-day holiday weekend, but what created those ski conditions has also caused local roads that aren't passable and clogged highways with frequent closures.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has created electronic closures on two roads in Meyers ahead of a snowy, crowded three-day holiday weekend in Lake Tahoe.

Closures of Sawmill Road and North Upper Truckee were initiated by the CHP in Meyers, then uploaded by Caltrans onto Waze, Google and other maps systems used on cellphones.

Kudos: Bread & Broth thanks Heavenly Mountain Resort Ski Patrol

With a big winter snow storm hitting the Tahoe area on Monday, February 2, there was no better crew to have sponsor the Adopt A Day of Nourishment meal than Heavenly’s Ski Patrol members.
