Fourteen arrests during Stateline Lake Tahoe New Year's festivities
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 01/01/2013 - 12:33pmThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports the New Years Eve celebration in the casino core area of Stateline, Lake Tahoe went as planned with 14 arrests made.
The celebratory crowd seemed no larger than in past years. Highway 50 was closed to vehicle traffic at about 11:00 p.m. for public safety reasons. The celebrants were allowed to flow into the roadway as they celebrated the coming of the New Year. The Nevada side of U.S. Highway 50 was cleared of celebrants at 12:20 am and was reopened to vehicle traffic at approximately 1 a.m. after the crowd peacefully moved off the roadway.

The three-day SnowGlobe Music Festival begins on Dec. 29, and will be held on the sports field adjacent to Lake Tahoe Community College on Al Tahoe Boulevard.
Authorities prepare for Lake Tahoe New Year's Eve party at Stateline
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 12/26/2012 - 11:55amThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is readying itself for the upcoming New Years Eve celebration at Lake Tahoe beginning Monday, Dec. 31. Each year upwards of 60,000 celebrants ring in the New Year in the casino core area of Stateline, Nev.
Due to the ordinarily high volume of celebrants within the Stateline casino core area during the event, U.S. Highway 50 may be closed to vehicle traffic in the evening if necessary for public safety. If that should occur, vehicle traffic will be diverted around the Stateline casino core area using upper and lower Lake Parkway Drive.

South Lake Tahoe man dies in vehicle accident at Ski Run and Pioneer Trail

William Olazaba of South Lake Tahoe, a passenger in a white Honda Accord driven by Roberto Olazaba, 22, died at Barton Memorial Hospital. According to South Lake Tahoe police, the Honda broadsided a GMC Yukon driven by Noe Corea, 26, of South Lake Tahoe.
The accident was reported at around 1:35 a.m. and alcohol is suspected as being a contributing factor, according to South Lake Tahoe police. The vehicles struck a power utility box and knocked out power to the Ski Run area, police said.

Supervisors Offer Support for Naming Lake Tahoe Peak for Fallen Warriors

The peak, located in the Lake Tahoe Basin on United States Forest Service land in Placer County, will be called Gold Star Peak.
The three fallen men include two soldiers and one Marine:
PFC Phillip Brandon Williams, USMC, 21, died October 9, 2006 in Iraq;

Police warn of gas company scam

A person falsely presents themself as a representative from the local gas company and offers to set up an appointment to review the customer’s financial records. The representative claims they can lower the gas bill, if they can review the financial documents.
The public should know Southwest Gas will not ever send anyone out to review personal financial information of customers.

During the investigation officers were advised that cash and approximately $3000 worth of spray paint and markers had been stolen.
On Sept. 8, victims of vandalism began calling the Police Department to report that buildings, signs and vehicles had been tagged with graffiti.

Deonte Brown is suspected of stealing, among other things, a 2002 Lexus convertible from a Zephyr Cove home, South Lake Tahoe authorities said. He was booked into Douglas County Jail.

Wildland fire reported off of West Way near Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe and Lake Valley have responded to a brush fire off of West Way near Highway 89 / Emerald Bay Road. A plume of smoke is visible in the area. The call came into dispatch at around 5:50 p.m. Forest Service firefighters are also on the scene and are scoping the area, said to be in a meadow.
Paramedics respond to motorcycle accident at Highway 50 and Lodi in South Lake Tahoe

Traffic is reportedly backed up from Stateline to the Y this afternoon. The accident was reported at 12:17 this afternoon. One victim was transported by air ambulance. A second victim was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital, according to Lake Tahoe News.

South Lake Tahoe paramedics have responded to Highway 50 and Lodi this afternoon following a motorcycle accident. The victim in the accident will apparently be transported by Calstar air ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno. The accident was reported at 12:17 as a collision with a vehicle. Traffic along Highway 50 is being rerouted. The victim was to be transported by ground ambulance to a helicopter landing site near Sierra Boulevard. It is unknown about the condition of the driver of the vehicle. Unconfirmed reports are that the driver was being taken to the South Lake Tahoe police station.

A neighborhood meeting will be held on today, Wednesday, at 6:30 pm for Gardner Mountain residents. This is an initiative led by Gardner Mountain residents who are concerned about the increase of thefts in the neighborhood.
South Lake Tahoe Police Officer Angela Kallstrom will be in attendance to discuss the crime problems with neighbors. This is informal and any and all help to raise awareness of neighborhood crime is appreciated.
The meeting will be at the corner of 13th Street and Gardner.

Man dies after being hit by vehicle on Lake Tahoe Boulevard near Pioneer Trail
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 08/14/2012 - 9:31pmUPDATE 3PM: South Lake Tahoe authorities say a 49-year-old man dressed in dark clothes was struck and killed by a van after attempting to cross Lake Tahoe Boulevard outside of the crosswalk.
More details have been released by South Lake Tahoe Police Department regarding Tuesday night's fatal accident that shut down Lake Tahoe Boulevard / Highway 50 from Pioneer Trail to Midway for about three hours. The driver of the van that hit the pedestrian has been cleared of any wrong-doing, according to Sgt. Brad Williams. The investigation is continuing and the identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Police arrived in the area and located a vehicle and an occupied residence both of which had damage consistent with gunfire. Witnesses stated that a black Dodge Charger and possibly a black SUV or truck were scene in the area.
