Public meeting on South Lake Tahoe affordable housing project, Sugar Pine Village

Sugar Pine Village in South Lake Tahoe is envisioned to be a new residential, mixed-use affordable community that compliments the existing neighborhood while also preserving native species and sensitive land. The project will be designed to provide residents with new high quality, sustainable housing designed to support active transportation, encouraging biking, walking, access to transit, and connection with nearby trails for the local workforce and their families.

Team selected to build affordable housing project in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Good news for the South Shore after the California Tahoe Conservancy announced today a major milestone in creating affordable housing at the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe.

The partnership of Related California and St. Joseph Community Land Trust (SJCLT) has been selected to build the community's first modular multi-family housing development. They are naming it Sugar Pine Village.

South Lake Tahoe City Council set to act on selling properties for affordable housing

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The St. Joseph Community Land Trust (SJCLT) in South Lake Tahoe provides permanently affordable homes and supportive programs for low and moderate-income residents. They may have a few more to offer if the City Council meeting on Tuesday goes as expected.

Financial Fitness

St. Joseph Community Land Trust announces it will host a Financial Fitness class to be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. This event will take place at the South Tahoe Association of Realtors office located at 2307 James Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. A few of the topics to be covered are setting financial goals, tracking spending habits, managing money and much more.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe awards $25,003 to local programs benefiting youth

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) awarded $25,003 towards programs in the local community that benefit youth during a luncheon on Wednesday, March 14.

The following presenters gave a brief description of the program on how the funds that were awarded would be used.

Jeanne Nelson– NAMI, El Dorado County, SLT – Brain Health Leadership
Paula Peterson – St. Theresa Bread & Broth 4 Kids - Healthy Snacks in the Classroom
Peggy Blowney – Tahoe Arts Project – Performing Arts in School

South Lake Tahoe affordable housing complex receiving upgrades

The residents of a local affordable housing complex are looking forward to a facelift of the place they call home. The Sierra Garden Apartments, located at 1801 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe, are set to receive a $15 million renovation funded through Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and tax-exempt bonds.

St. Joseph Community Land Trust wishes to thank the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe for its recent donation to our 'Motel to Housing Program.' This program is designed to assist low-income working families who are living in substandard housing such as motels. Short-term loans are made to qualified households to help pay with upfront moving costs such as cleaning or security deposits and first and last month's rent. St. Joseph Community Land Trust wishes to express its sincere gratitude and thankfulness for your generous donation.

Homeless in High School

Homelessness has many faces. Some are old, some are young. It affects all races, religions, and sexes. It can be triggered by a poor economy, inconsistent work, a medical catastrophe, and death of a family member. In the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD), there are 246 homeless students (1).

I recently sat down with one of those students to understand a day in the life of a homeless student.

HIKE FOR HOUSING

The El Dorado COunty Habitat for Humanity and St. Joseph Community Land Trust are holding a "Hike for Housing" on Saturday, September 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the Lam Wa Tah Trail.

The hike will begin at Our Lady of Tahoe Catholic Church on Elks Point Road in the Round Hill area. Registration will be held the day of the event at the church. Cost is $25 per family or $15 for individuals.

The hike is to raise money to help locals have quality housing at Lake Tahoe.

Hike for Housing Fundraiser

El Dorado County Habitat for Humanity & St. Joseph Community Land Trust will hold its annual Hike for Housing Fundraiser, 9am-3pm Spooner Lake on Sept. 15. The Hike for Housing event raises funds for affordable housing locally. Bring the family and enjoy a leisurely stroll (2 miles) around Spooner Lake or hike all the way to Marlette Lake (moderate hike). Pre-register by 9/10/12 for $15/pp or $25/per family. Day of the event registration is also available @ $20/pp or $30/per family. Carpooling is recommended. $8 for Nevada license plates, $10 all others for parking. Raffle items.
