TRPA Approves the South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core Area Plan
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/20/2013 - 3:31pmThe City of South Lake Tahoe's vision to recreate a community that encourages revitalizing commercial and residential areas got one step closer today with the TRPA's adoption of the South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core Area Plan. The area involved is the Highway 50 corridor from Fairway Ave at Bijou, up and down Ski Run Boulevard, and up to the Stateline.
Outdated development and pollution in the core of South Lake Tahoe could be on their way out with the adoption today of the City of South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core Area Plan by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board.

El Dorado County, Douglas County, and the City of South Lake Tahoe are hosting two community workshops on December 11-12, 2013 to discuss the role that outdoor recreation plays in enhancing tourism and community livability for the South Shore. This is a great opportunity for residents to share their insights about parks, recreation, trails, events and programs, so that recreation opportunities can be improved in the future.
Forest thinning to begin on west side of Fallen Leaf Lake
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 08/15/2013 - 3:40pmForest thinning on public land along the west side of Fallen Leaf Lake will begin Friday, Aug. 16, the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit announced Thursday. Thinning will take place south of the dam and will move closer to the dam in a couple of weeks.
Forest thinning begins between Montgomery Estates and Sierra Tract
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 05/21/2013 - 2:21pmThinning of trees for fuels reduction and forest health begins this week on National Forest System lands between Montgomery Estates and Sierra Tract in South Lake Tahoe.
The contractor has begun mobilizing equipment and will begin cutting trees within the next few days. The Forest Service has closed the area from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily through July 26 for public safety due to heavy equipment operations and falling trees.
South Lake Tahoe taking applications for commissioner appointments

Applications may be obtained at the City Clerk's Office located at 1901 Airport Road, South Lake Tahoe, California, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and are also available on the City of South Lake Tahoe’s website at www.cityofslt.us – City Clerk-Boards and Commissions.
Missing snowboarder found alive, stayed overnight at Horizon
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 01/10/2013 - 8:42amA search for missing snowboarder Corey Hoffman ended this morning when the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was contacted by a family member who informed them that Hoffman had phoned his father and advised he had spent the night at Horizon Casino Resort.
Deputies contacted Corey at the Stagecoach Lodge where he had proceeded to, and according to him he was unaware of the search for him. After a lengthy interview with Corey and his brother who had reported him missing, we are unable to determine exactly what transpired.
Tahoe Fund Presents $12,850 Check for Key Segment of Lake Tahoe Bikeway

The Bikeway will link communities around the lake, improve air quality, and provide a breathtaking recreational amenity for Tahoe residents and visitors.

Edgewood Lake Tahoe resort project approved by TRPA board
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 08/23/2012 - 9:55pmLake Tahoe planning leaders gave their approval Thursday to a paradigm changing project at the South Shore, which would allow for a high-end resort complex at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, the site of the American Century Championship.
The governing board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency unanimously approved the Edgewood Tahoe Lodge and Golf Course realignment project that will make way for the 154-room lodge. Construction could begin in 2014, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune.

Beach benefit for South Shore Lake Tahoe local Sean Riley set for August 15

In May, local community member Sean Riley suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a succession of blackouts and falls. A Beach Bash Benefit is being held to help offset Sean’s medical expenses on Wednesday, August 15, 5-8 p.m., at Zephyr Cove Resort.
Sean is an off-road tour guide for Lake Tahoe Adventures and his wife, Georgette, works for the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and Tahoe Chamber. Sean has been hospitalized since May and came home this week and is now under 24-hour care. He is doing better, but does have some issues with comprehension and memory as a result of the injury, and has a long road to recovery requiring extensive therapy, home supervision and care.

Arrests made in Lake Tahoe cocaine sting
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 03/08/2012 - 5:13pmThe Tri-NET Narcotic Task Force, working in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Street Enforcement Team (SET), the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, and the Santa Cruz California Police Department arrested 26 year-old Joseph Perez and 25 year-old Oscar Madriz, both of Santa Cruz, California, on charges of trafficking and sales of cocaine. The arrests were made on March 2.
