The South Lake Tahoe City Council is set to allow businesses to increase their use of sandwich boards for advertising following a vote this week.
The council gave initial approval to changes to the city's sign ordinance that will allow a business to display one sandwich board — folding signs that are typically are set in front of a business — on holidays, weekends and the period between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.

Motorists traveling Highway 89 on the west shore of Lake Tahoe can expect around-the-clock construction work this week between Tahoe City and Tahoma, according to Caltrans.
Motorists will likely come upon one-way traffic control restrictions and up to 10 minute delays beginning at 7 a.m. Monday and continuing through 10 a.m. Friday. The Forest Service fire chief for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is suspending residential burning, also known as "dooryard" burning, effective today, Wednesday, July 18, 2012, through the remainder of fire season.
The ban applies to debris burning on private, state and federal lands of El Dorado and Placer counties in the Lake Tahoe Basin, according to a news release.
Residential debris burning is already banned within the South Lake Tahoe city limits, and in both the Tahoe Douglas and North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection districts.

Needed improvements at the Thunderbird Lodge got a lift on Wednesday when the Nevada Commission on Tourism announced the Lake Tahoe site was among several to win an improvement project grant.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE- Calif. One hundred CrossFit Athletes in Northern California and Nevada will gather at South Tahoe CrossFit this Saturday, June 16, for a one-day challenge to find the area's fittest man and woman.

In its third year, the Fittest of the Sierras Competition has gained recognition as being the premier CrossFit event in the area.
