Drowsy Driving Prevention Week

As daylight saving time comes to an end on Sunday, November 1, any will notice the time change disrupting sleep patterns and affecting the ability to concentrate and safely operate a motor vehicle. To highlight the life-threatening dangers of fatigued driving, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) joins the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and the National Sleep Foundation in recognizing Drowsy Driving Prevention Week, November 1-8, 2020, and encouraging Californians to stay alert and stay alive.

Time to Fall Back as daylight saving time comes to an end for 2020

Daylight-saving time comes to an end for 2020 on Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 a.m. in much of the United States. Clocks will move back one hour as standard time starts its run.

The practice of having the time change started in the early 1900s as a way to make better use of daylight during the spring and summer months, so there is an extra hour of sunlight in the evening instead of the morning.

Drowsy Driving Prevention Week November 5-12

Now that we have all changed our clocks and experienced the first night of an early sunset it is time to understand what the end of Daylight Saving Time can do to drivers.

The time change may disrupt sleep patterns and affect the ability to concentrate and safely operate a motor vehicle, and to highlight the dangers of fatigued drivng, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) joins the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and the National Sleep Foundation in recognizing Drowsy Driving Prevention Week, November 5-12, 2018.

Daylight saving time begins Sunday, time to spring forward!

One sure sign of spring is the annual changing of the clock as Daylight Saving Time begins. On Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 a.m., most states will move their clocks forward one hour, the 100th anniversary of the Spring time change.

The state of Florida just voted to keep Daylight Saving Time year round, and Arizona and Hawaii don't move clocks forward at all.

CNN researchers came up with the following timeline for the clock change:

1784 - The idea of daylight saving is first conceived by Benjamin Franklin.

1914-1918 - Britain goes on DLS during World War I.

Don't Forget: Change the time, Change the battery

Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends at exactly at 2:00 a.m. this Sunday, November 5. Turn the clocks back one hour if you live in most of the United States (most of Arizona and Hawaii don't observe DST).

This time of year serves as a good reminder to change their smoke detector batteries. The batteries should be replaced twice a year, so an easy way to remember to change them is to do it as DST begins and ends.

Almost 3,000 people die each year from structure fires, and many of these deaths can be prevented with working smoke detectors.

So remember: change the time, change your battery!

Don't Forget: Change the time, Change the battery

Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends at exactly at 2:00 a.m. this Sunday, November 6. Turn the clocks back one hour if you live in most of the United States (most of Arizona and Hawaii don't observe DST).

The Lake Valley Fire Department is using this change in time to remind residents to also change their smoke detector batteries. The batteries should be replaced twice a year, so an easy way to remember to change them is to do it as DST begins and ends.

Time change can lead to sleepy drivers

With most of the country turning their clocks back and switching to Daylight Saving Time on March 13, the National Sleep Foundation is leading the observation of National Sleep Awareness Week to highlight the importance of drivers being aware of the potential dangers of the time shift.

“Many people have a hard time adjusting to the time change, and it can affect their driving,” CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow said. “Even the most careful drivers become confused and use poor judgment when they are sleepy.”

Don't Forget to Move Clocks Forward

Even though winter hasn't made much of a presence in Lake Tahoe this year, it's time once again for the annual spring ritual of daylight savings time. Sunday, March 9 at 2 a.m. is the official time charge where people are to move their clocks forward one hour.

Time to Turn Clocks Back One Hour Tonight

Most in the United States do this twice a year, but do many know why? We're talking daylight savings time beginning and ending, each resulting in the turn of the hour hand. 70 other countries also participate in daylight savings time though Hawaii and Arizona have opted out.
