Taylor Creek Visitor Center hosts Native Species Festival

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will host the third annual Native Species Festival on Sunday, June 9, 2013. Residents and visitors are invited to attend this free family event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center, located three miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District graduation, drop out rates mirror positive state trends

The percentage of Lake Tahoe Unified School District students who earned a diploma inched higher this year according to data released Tuesday by the California Department of Education.

The high school graduation rate rose and the dropout rate decreased in LTUSD during the 2011-12 school year.

San Diego State students forego traditional spring break to serve South Lake Tahoe

Fifteen students from San Diego State University will forego the typical spring break of beaches and relaxation to teach thousands of children in a small mountain community how to save energy and save the environment.

Members of the student organization CALPIRG Energy Service Corps will travel to South Lake Tahoe, Calif., from March 31 through April 5 to spread the word on energy savings.

Most phone lines restored at LTCC

The majority of Lake Tahoe Community College’s phone lines were to be back and operational by the end of Friday, according to a news release. Voicemail on all lines was also projected to be operational at the end of the day.

Full restoration is expected to be completed by Tuesday, Feb. 5. The LTCC administration would like to acknowledge and thank Lake Tahoe Unified School District for providing assistance with the recovery.

Tahoe Prosperity Center welcomes two new team members

Christina Proctor, public relations professional, and Bev Ducey, a resource development expert with an extensive history in grant procurement, will be advancing the mission of the Tahoe Prosperity Center (TPC) in 2013. The TPC Executive Committee contracted with Proctor and Ducey after Mone´ Haen, former chief executive officer, announced her resignation in December. Proctor will be developing TPC materials, presentations and handling the daily administrative tasks of the organization. Ducey will focus on strengthening the TPC’s financial resources through grant development.

Free Student Sports Physicals
