Long term projects:

June 12-17 - State Route 89 (Placer County) from Mankato Place to Cathedral Drive: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Friday for roadway excavation, drainage work and curb and gutter construction.

June 13-17 - State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Cascade Road to Cascade Creek: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 2 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday and 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for shoulder work and permanent erosion control.

June 5-10 - State Route 89 (Placer County) from Mankato Place to Granlibakken Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Friday for drainage work and curb and gutter construction.

June 6-9 - State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday for pavement fog sealing.

Inaugural community clean-up day on Saturday

The Clean Tahoe program is organizing the first Spring Clean day in South Lake Tahoe, something they hope will become an annual event in all local neighborhoods.
All community members are welcome to participate at various locations throughout the South Shore on Saturday, May 21 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Cleanup supplies will be provided as well as a free lunch for all volunteers at Lakeview Commons at El Dorado Beach afterward.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Truckee Drive to Rubicon Trail/Carson Avenue in South Lake Tahoe: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane and right shoulder closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for utility work.

Prescribed burns to continue around Lake Tahoe Basin

North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts and the U.S. Forest Service will continue prescribed fire operations over the next few weeks in various locations around the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Depending on daily weather forecasts, operations are planned in the following areas:

Douglas County - Zephyr Cove Park near Warrior Way - 8 acres

Missing Sierra Nevada College student safe and back at school

Update 7 a.m. 10/14/15:

Dianne Thacher is no longer missing and returned to her dorm room at Sierra Nevada College Tuesday afternoon. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that she is safe, not injured and that there was no foul play associated with her disappearance.

Tahoe Art League holding studio tour over next two weekends

Visit 22 different locations during the 9th Annual Artist Studio Tour which is being held by the Tahoe Art League over two weekends, July 24-26 and July 31 - August 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

This is a great opportunity to meet artists from South Lake Tahoe and the surrounding communities, visit their studios and enjoy their art.

City Council addresses temporary craft shows in South Lake Tahoe

The South Lake Tahoe City Council once again addressed temporary craft shows on Tuesday, discussing many issues from displays, appearance, juries, and subjective verbiage including "quality," "nice" and "tidy," all of which were all part of the draft city ordinance they were reviewing.

Dealing with craft shows is nothing new for the council, having voted in 2013 to limit the number of shows in city limits to four per site with a maximum of eight per summer season.

Hello fellow anglers, I have to tell you that last weekend's Lampe Park Kids derby was rewarding. The fishing was slow both days, but there were a few nice fish caught. At one time I felt as if I were at a ball game. I could hear the crowd cheering at one end of Willow Creek with the voices in unison rising and lowering as a 4-year-old angler was reeling in a 7 pound trout.

Project: State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks will be added in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side. Drainage systems are also being built and the roadway will be resurfaced. Completion is expected by spring 2017.

Now that weather is favorable for roadwork, Caltrans and NDot have begun their projects around Lake Tahoe and the surrounding areas.

Third rabid skunk found in El Dorado County this year

A rabid skunk was found in the Pleasant Valley area of El Dorado County, bringing the total number of the rabid animals found to three so far in 2015.

The county's Animal Services reported the skunk was found on Pleasant Valley Road near Grindstone Road and White Rose Lane.

One of their officers was called to the scene around noon on April 24, 2015, after a member of the public observed the skunk showing signs of rabies. The officer retrieved the skunk and sent it to the El Dorado County Public Health Laboratory for testing. Test results came back positive for rabies on April 27.

North Lake Tahoe woman arrested on suspicion of $850,000 embezzlement

A 61-year-old Carnelian Bay woman has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling more than $850,000 from a business in Incline Village.

Washoe County sheriff's deputies say Pamela Kircher was arrested Thursday in the case involving an Incline Village business. She is accused of embezzling the money over a seven-year period.

Investigators declined to identify the business, but say Kircher most recently worked as a housekeeper at various locations in Incline Village. The victims became suspicious of Kircher late last year and contacted the Sheriff’s Office to investigate.

Over 300 acres to be burned from Van Sickle Park to North Shore starting Sunday

Smoke will be visible from various locations around the lake due to prescribed burns of underbrush and wood piles starting Sunday.

The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, the Nevada Division of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service will conduct prescribed fire operations in the Incline Village, Ponderosa Ranch, Tunnel Creek trailhead areas and on scattered urban lots around the Lake Tahoe Basin beginning, Sunday, November 2, 2014, and continuing as conditions allow.

World Book Night Celebrated in South Lake Tahoe

The Friends of the Library and the South Lake Tahoe Library are coming together to celebrate World Book Night on April 23. Throughout the day, volunteer book lovers will be seen in various locations within our community giving away hundreds of free books.
