Akin to a student who has just taken their first economics class, Councilmember Robbins completely misses the mark in his latest op-ed published in the Tahoe Daily Tribune entitled “Change is needed in Tahoe.” He laments the changes in local demographics, business diversity, and housing affordability in the last 25 years, diagnoses these changes as a "Problem That Must Be Solved," and then goes on to call out the shadowy forces that seek to thwart his heroism.

Letter: No more backroom deals in Douglas County, vote McKalip

I have been watching the District 1 Commissioner race with interest and just read Commissioner Tarkanian’s latest newsletter. He mentions that numerous county leaders are against him because he is not part of the “good old boys” club. In other newsletters, he has stated that he does not do “backroom” deals and he is transparent. Not true!

Letter: Vacancy tax doesn't go far enough!

Column:Helping Children and Teens Manage their Feelings

At the core of strong mental health is one's ability to manage and tolerate emotions in a healthy manner. Emotional literacy, or emotional intelligence, is having self-awareness to recognize feelings and know how to manage them. The ability to stay calm when you feel angry or to reassure yourself when in doubt are both examples of emotional literacy.

Get in the Game

Letter: Tarkanian is disingenuous

Editor: First off, I am a supporter of Nathan Tolbert for District 5 on the Douglas County Commission. He supports my values of honesty and transparency.

Letter: Vacancy Tax Must Include Exemptions

Now that the vacancy tax has been qualified for the November ballot, the City council is faced with the arduous task of trying to figure out how to make it all work. A difficult task at best and no doubt met with different opinions on what is a fair balance. A blanket policy is certainly not the answer, and I would suggest that there must be certain exemptions allowed if this initiative does indeed pass. I would like to suggest for consideration the following. Others may have additional issues to declare.

Small bear cub abandoned at Bear League offices at Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On Mother's Day weekend, someone left a bear cub in a pet crate in the driveway of the Bear League office in Homewood. A note was attached, asking the Bear League to "please help Moses he doesn't have a mother."

With similarities to the biblical Moses who was placed in a basket and floated down the Nile River to escape death, the bear Moses would have certainly faced death if it was left in the wild alone, without its mother.

Letter: Vacancy Tax - a more tailored solution

My father-in-law began working on the docks of Camp Richardson over 70 years ago in the 1950s. His family purchased a small lot with the intention of building a house on it. At that time, many of the homes in the neighborhood had not yet been constructed. Finally, in 1973, construction began, and he hired someone to frame the house before building the rest with his own two hands.
