SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Reno man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing a car in Sacramento and failing to stop for officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) on Wednesday, May 8.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County School District trustees will decide which of the six candidates for the superintendent position they will interview, and how they will obtain stakeholder feedback at their May 21 meeting.

Applications of the six individuals have been distributed to the trustees along with a screening form where they will individually rank the candidates. During the May 21 meeting, the trustees are scheduled to discuss their screening results and select which candidates will be brought forward for interviews.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Multiple agencies responded to a stolen car being driven at a high rate of speed between Meyers and Emerald Bay Road on Wednesday afternoon at around 2 p.m. Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) had located a vehicle stolen out of Sacramento. The driver failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed through the "Y".

Arc'teryx has announced a new climbing event, Queer Ascent, taking place in Truckee from May 31 - June 1. LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Stephen Curry will be skipping his golf shoes this July and instead heading to Paris with his basketball shoes for the Olympics where he is a member of Team USA.

Curry was the winner at the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe in 2023 and will forego his title defense in search of Olympic gold for 2024.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Soroptimist Club of South Lake Tahoe is inviting the public to its meeting Wednesday when local urbanized bear expert Toogee Sielsch is their guest speaker.

Toogee's presentation will be on May 8 at 12 p.m. at the South Tahoe Association of Realtor Building at 2307 James So. Lake Tahoe CA. There is no need to RSVP.

Toogee will be discussing the history of the black bear in the South Lake Tahoe area as well as the current situation with populations now that the females have emerged from their birthing dens.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Dave Ennis, a long-time South Lake Tahoe local, recently came to the rescue of two local properties - the American Legion and Grocery Outlet.

For the last few years, there has been a hole in the rear of the American Legion building where a screened grate was once in place. Dave is a member of the American Legion and told Commander Tom Milham he'd get his "Genie" lift back in town and replace the grate. Dave got up on the lift and replaced the grate.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network is hosting an event for 1st Time Homebuyers on Wednesday, May 15th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Lake Tahoe Pizza Co. back room.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners are holding a special meeting that will include the final adoption of the County Budget Fiscal Year 24-25. The Town of Gardnerville, Town of Genoa, and Town of Minden will also present their prospective budgets to the Board.

This meeting will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Historic Courthouse in Minden, located at 1616 8th Street, Minden, NV 89423.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe has held a Spelling Bee for students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District for the last 40 years. Last week the word action returned, with students from Sierra House, Bijou, and Meyers elementary schools participating (all local schools are invited).

On May 2nd, an article was published in South Tahoe Now, “Technology being used as a partner in forest fuels treatment at Lake Tahoe,” describing the new “BurnBot” and its brush clearing capabilities. The article opens with a statement from Amy Berry of the Tahoe Fund, claiming that “we are going to lose the whole forest” if they aren’t “thinned”.
