Sunny, warm start and cold, snowy end to the week ahead in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Warm and dry conditions will persist through most of Wednesday as high pressure traverses the Sierra and western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Winds will begin to increase Wednesday afternoon as a storm approaches the West Coast. That storm will bring much colder temperatures, heavy wet Sierra snow, and valley rain Wednesday night into Thursday. Snow showers may linger at all elevations Friday into the weekend.

The weekly forecast for South Lake Tahoe from NWS Reno:

Monday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 28. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph.

Tuesday - Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 32. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday - A slight chance of rain showers between 10 am and 4 pm, then rain and snow showers likely. Snow level 7100 feet. Partly sunny, with a high near 54. South wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.

Wednesday Night - Rain and snow. Snow level at 6700 feet. Low around 27. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Thursday - Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 11 am. High near 39. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible.
