Untethered offers a new kind of office space community at Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Renovations are now complete on the newest office space at Lake Tahoe - Untethered. After their successful "Cowork Tahoe" in South Lake Tahoe, David and Jamie Orr have teamed up with Chet Pipkin and his family business to offer something new to the Nevada side of the South Shore - reimagined coworking spaces.

The partnership was formed when local real estate broker Scott Fair represented the seller of the building which formerly held the Live Out Loud business in front of Safeway at Round Hill. He knew the Pipkin's idea of a community-based coworking space and suggested he meet the Orrs, and Untethered came to life.

untethered

/ (ʌnˈtɛðəd) /
adjective
not tied or limited with or as if with a tether

Untethered offers businesses, whether a staff of one or several, the opportunity to have an office with all the amenities that normally come with an office, but not the high costs of renting or buying offices at Lake Tahoe.

Plus, it gives those using the building the ability to live, work and play at the lake.

Every inch of the old building has been remodeled to create workspaces perfect for today's businesses. Staff can be one person or more and there are options for drop-in spaces and monthly offices. David said the new spaces resemble what he saw in the Bay Area before the Orrs moved to South Lake Tahoe. There they saw teams of people in coworking spaces while at Cowork Tahoe they saw more individuals.

"That was a big surprise," said David of the difference. "It will be interesting to see how the coworking spaces fill in."

Most of the office space at Unthethered is already full and includes Sotheby's, Tahoe Beach Club, Luna Lending, and Tahoe Life Construction. Options are tailored to the community's needs. With real estate expensive in Nevada, and some businesses requiring an address in Nevada, Untethered is meeting many of those needs. They also have a board room that local nonprofits can use and a reduced rate.

As companies navigate a COVID-19 world, and hopefully a soon-to-be post-COVID-world, coworking spaces work as the office in between one at home and one in a big building packed with coworkers.

Being part of Untethered gets users access to both small and large meeting rooms, 24/7 access, mail service, copiers, and other benefits. The three-story building has access for users on each floor, with coffee, tea, snacks and restrooms on each floor. It is ADA accessible on the first two floors as well with a lift and a ramp.

The entrance to the high-end professional space brings awe with its large chandelier, open staircases, windows with views of the blue skies and snow outside, an electronic readerboard and shows off the work done by Iron Dog Metals and Sierra Sustainable.

"We wanted to make it beautiful and pleasing for all tenants and their clients," said Jamie. "It is a space that we are proud to be part of."

"We are excited to be over here," said David. "It is a fantastic partnership with the Pipkins."

Pipkin splits his time between Southern California and Zephyr Cove and has a long-time connection to Lake Tahoe. He wants to make a positive impact on the community not only through Untethered but through many other projects and ideas. His new Desolation Hotel in South Lake Tahoe is nearing completion. Even though it isn't open until this summer they hosted Spookytacular Tahoe Halloween that raised $100,000 for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation and El Dorado Community Foundation. They also purchased the Wylder Hotel Hope Valley which hosts free history talks on weekends. Pipkin is the founder of Belkin, sits on several boards, and started a nonprofit that provides a diabetes camp for kids in Los Angeles.
