Work on Apache Avenue Pedestrian Safety and Connectivity Project set to start mid-May

MEYERS, Calif. - Funding for the Apache Avenue Pedestrian Safety and Connectivity Project in Meyers is in place. Caltrans announced the awarding of $1.7 million in Active Transportation Program funds for the project and combined with multiple sources including federal and local funds the project is ready for El Dorado County (EDC) Board of Supervisors approval.

If approved by the Board on February 27, the project will go to bid with an anticipated start of construction in mid-May 2024, and completion this fall.

Improvements will be on Apache Avenue between Highway 50 and East San Bernardino Avenue. They will include a storm drain system, rolled concrete curb and gutter, ADA curb ramps, sidewalk, Class 1 path, and a speed feedback sign to slow vehicle speeds on Apache Ave. The trail and sidewalk will connect to the existing Pat Lowe Memorial Bike Trail at the intersection of Apache and Highway 50.

EDC Department of Transportation is also partnering with the South Tahoe Public Utility District on the project which will include waterline replacement/service line upgrade work on Apache Avenue to be completed concurrently to minimize construction impacts to residents.
