Two Douglas County businesses cited for selling liquor to minors

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) went to 27 local businesses on February 1 to conduct an operation to make sure they were being compliant with state law with reference to alcohol sales to minors.

The following 25 businesses were checked and they successfully passed the alcohol compliance check and did not sell alcohol to a minor.

Walgreen’s, Sierra Market, Wal-Mart/Grant Av., Walgreen’s, Golden Gate gas, Grocery Outlet, Rite Aid, Smith’s grocery, 7-11 on 395, PJ’s Liquor, JM Liquor - Kimmerling, Dollar General, Ranchos Liquor, World Market, Target, Carson Country Market, Wal-Mart north, JM Liquor - Hwy 395, Wildhorse Restaurant, AM/PM -Minden,

Maverik, Louis Mandarin Restaurant, Pizza Factory - Minden, Johnson Lane Store and the Silver City RV Park.

The following businesses did not pass the compliance checks and citations were issued to the individual employees: Carson Valley Market and 7-11 Tillman.

No businesses were checked at the lake portion of the county this go around.

According to Nevada Revised Statute 202.055 it is illegal to sell or furnish alcohol to a person under the age of 21 years, and it is a misdemeanor punishable up to six months and or a $1,000.00 fine.

Underage drinking is a serious public health problem. Alcohol is the most widely used substance of abuse among youth and drinking by young people poses enormous health and safety risks. The consequences of underage drinking affect everyone in the community, by way of property damage, vandalism, violence, injuries and death.
