Lake Tahoe road and weather report

One constant topic in South Lake Tahoe this week: the weather and flooding. As of Friday morning, that rain has turned to snow.

A Flood Watch expires in South Lake Tahoe at 9:15 a.m. Friday and the Winter Storm is still in effect until 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

Weather:

Today - Rain, possibly mixed with snow. High near 43. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Tonight- Snow likely, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Saturday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 37. East wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Snow accumulations above 8000 feet 1 to 2 feet, 6 to 12 inches between 7000 to 8000 feet, 2 to 5 inches at lake level possible by this evening.

Roads at 7:45 a.m. Friday: At a minimum, chains or snow tires are required on every road around Lake Tahoe. Kingsbury Grade/SR207, Highway 50 from Stateline to Spooner Summit (closed at Logan Creek), SR28 around the lake, SR89 from SLT to Emerald Bay(closed at Emerald Bay), Mt. Rose Hwy/SR431, SR88 from Woodfords toH Ham's Station (closed on Carson Spur) are all chains or snow tires.

Chains or 4WD with Snow Tires on Highway 50 from Meyers to Twin Bridges, the lake side of SR267, SR89 from Bliss State Park to I80. SR89 from Meyers over Luther Pass.

Carson Valley roads are experiencing several areas of flooding and their status can change during the day. Muller Lane and Genoa Lane are both closed. Highway 395 may be closed soon at the Cradlebaugh Bridge.

Highway 50 at Logan Creek remains closed due to and unstable and unsafe situation with boulders above the roadway. Reopening time is unknown.
