South Lake Tahoe Teen Victim of Hit & Run in Stable Condition

A 15 year old South Lake Tahoe teen is in stable condition today after being struck by a car, dragged through an intersection, and left in a snow bank at the corner of Washington and Third Streets on Monday evening. The suspect, a male driver, left the scene in a white or off white subaru.

His mother, Aisha Sequoiyah, spoke to SouthTahoeNow.com today from Renown Medical Center in Reno. She said her son Abiyah is doing okay and is undergoing cognitive tests today to determine that there is no brain damage. She hopes he will be released later today.

The accident is still under investigation.

The accident comes at a time when the family is already in a financial crisis. Aisha has arthritis and hasn't been able to work. The family doesn't have a phone or much food, and not enough money to cover medications. She has raised her five sons by herself and still has three at home, the 15 year old, a 12 year old and a 17 year old.

At the moment, she doesn't know how she will get back to Tahoe from Renown though the Hospital's social services are trying to find them a ride, as well as clothes for her son to wear home. Since moving to Lake Tahoe they have had their car and belongings stolen and were homeless, though they now live in a mobile home at the Y.

A fund will be set up today for donations to help the family and the account will be publicized once made available. Food and a phone are also needed.
