South Tahoe High basketball games are free on Valentine's Day

Due to the generous donation from someone in the community, the South Tahoe High girls' and boys' basketball games are free on Saturday, February 14.

The Junior Varsity girls open up the day of basketball with their 10 a.m. game, followed by the JV boys at 11:30 a.m.

Varsity games get underway at 1 p.m. for the girls and 2:30 p.m. for the boys.

All games will be against Churchill County High School of Fallon, NV.

The winner of the Varsity boys game will also win a trip to the 1A Northern Nevada playoffs. Both South Tahoe and Churchill County are tied for the final berth with a 9-6 league record. STHS is on a four game win streak while Churchill won last week. Elko leads the league with their undefeated 15-0 season, followed by Lowry (13-2) and Spring Creek (11-5). South Tahoe lost earlier in the season to Elko and Lowry but they beat Spring Creek.

Max Preps has the Vikings ranked tenth in the playoff picture for the state in Division 1A, while they have Churchill County at 13th.

Playoffs will be held on Feb. 20 and 21 in Fallon at Churchill County High School.

The Varsity Girls team has a 7-8 league record, just behind fourth place Spring Creek at 9-6.

STHS Principal Chad Houck is looking for students and the community to fill the gym with lots of local spirit to root the teams on.
