Ross fundraiser nets almost $5,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe

Shoppers at the South Lake Tahoe Ross store raised $4,922 for the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe during their three-week long fundraiser.

"The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) has been overwhelmed by the generosity and support of the community during the recent ‘Ross Cause Campaign’ that benefited the Club," said Jude Wood, Executive Director of BGCLT.

Between February 4 and 26, customers at Ross were asked if they would like to make a cash donation to BGCLT when they checked out with their purchases. Children from the Club also made an appearance and handed out stickers and information about the Club during the Presidents' Week break.

The funds raised were double the goal set by the store. Each donation was greeted by a cheer from store staff and a card to hang around the cash register was filled out.

“We want to say a huge thank you to the staff at Ross for encouraging donations and being so supportive of the Club," said Wood. "This amazing sum could not have been achieved without the generosity and kindness of our community. South Lake Tahoe has been taking a beating this winter, with snow and flooding affecting everyone, but raising nearly five thousand dollars for the Club proves what an incredible community we live in and how we value the importance of education and our children.”

The money raised will be spent on resources to support homework hour and to ensure that every child at the Club reaches their full potential. Currently the Club has an average daily participation rate of 300 children involved in the after-school program, which includes one hour of homework time and two hours of enhancement.

“Practice makes perfect,” says Ashley Hall, Program Coordinator at the Al Tahoe site. “By helping our members to complete their homework correctly, we are encouraging mastery and enabling them to meet the educational standards for their age and grade.”

The Ross Cause Campaign was a national event, with the money raised in each store going to their local Club. The campaign has been running for a number of years but this is the most raised so far in South Lake Tahoe.
