SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - A planned emergency drill at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) Wednesday prompted an emergency lock down at Tahoe Valley Elementary School.
At 2:00 p.m. on February 28, a planned automated alert was sent out by LTCC. On campus there was an announcement sent out over loud speakers, telling students there was a lockdown drill. Part of the on campus drill is to send out a robocall.
Just a moment later, Tahoe Valley Elementary School was placed on emergency lock down. The Lake Tahoe Unified School District's School Resource Officer and officers from the South Lake Tahoe police Department (SLTPD) responded to the lockdown, secured the school site, and determined that it was a false alarm. In accordance with lockdown procedures, however, all students were accounted for.
No SWAT teams were deployed to respond to the school per SLTPD Sgt. Doug Sentell.
He said it appears the cases are related but what officially caused the school's lockdown has not been released.
