Winter storm conditions continue at Lake Tahoe

A second wave of heavy snow will begin again this morning as the jet stream moves over northwest California southeast toward the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. A Winter Storm Warning continues until noon today and schools are closed in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District.
Expect periods of moderate to heavy this morning in the Lake Tahoe Basin. About 5 to 10 inches of new snow is expected above 7,000 feet under the second wave, with 4 to 8 inches at lake level. For the Reno-Carson City vicinity, a short period of snow showers will produce reduced visibility, but little, if any, accumulation. Gusty winds will continue today, producing areas of blowing and drifting snow with visibility near zero at times.
Chains and snow tires are required over mountain roads and major highways into the basin. Go here for the latest road conditions and here for the latest weather information. For the latest from Heavenly Mountain Resort, go here; from Sierra-at-Tahoe go here and from Kirkwood Mountain Resort go here.
