Whittell falls short of another Nevada State basketball title

The Whittell High School's boys varsity basketball team made another trip to the NIAA Division IV State Basketball Championships over the weekend, trying to replicate last year's championship. They took their 15-1 league record to The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for the final games of the season.

On Friday, the boys played Spring Mountain from the southern division. Despite 26 points from junior Palmer Chaplin and 17 by Quinn Kixmiller, the Whittell Warriors lost to Spring Mountain, 69-54.

Whittell had gone into the state tournament as the number two seed after losing to their nemisis Virginia City in the Northern D IV tournament last weekend. The Muckers also lost in their first round game to Pahranagat Valley, 26-23. Spring Mountain went on to win the state title.

The members of the 2015 Warriors are Connor Huber, Osvaldo Reyes-Lucero, Troy Libert, Jacob Smart, Quinn Kixmiller, Palmer Chaplin, Colin Buchholz, Nicholaus Buchholz, Andy Delgado, Caleb Moretti, Dismas Womack, Corey Huber, Bryce Bronken and Genaro Mena.

Just four of the team are graduating seniors so look to Whittell for another strong season next year.
