Key's Cafe offering free breakfast to South Lake Tahoe children

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With schools not in session, many families have been left scrambling to provide the meals that would normally be provided at school.

Starting Monday, the Keys Cafe is offering free breakfast to children in grades K-6th with 30 percent off for parents. Keys Cafe is located at 2279 Lake Tahoe Blvd. #2, South Lake Tahoe. It is behind Enterprise Rental Car near Tahoe Keys Blvd. The free offer is good from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. M-F until April 1.

“I feel it is our duty as members of this community to help in any way we possibly can. Tahoe is a beautiful place, not only because of the scenery but also the big hearts of the local community banding together during times such as these," said Jeremy Gilpin, JFG Investments and Gym 100. "At Tahoe Club 100 and JFG Investments, we believe in standing behind our community and families and doing our part to keep Tahoe beautiful.”

Gilpin, along with William Jackson, general manager of Keys Cafe, and Dreu Murin decided that, with the worry and sense of panic in the South Lake Tahoe community, they'd do something for the community.

“During trying times like these it is vital for our community to come together. Many locals, including myself, have children attending the Tahoe school system and know how difficult it can be. I feel very blessed to be part of this great community and to have the ability to do my part to help our wonderful city and its families," said Jackie Gilpin of Compass Realty who responded to the free meals after overhearing others talking.

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day (like my Mom says) and happiness is what life is all about. With all the pressures and worries of people who are currently out of work and with all the happenings in the world, we are hoping that we can spread a little joy in our community. Come get a hot breakfast, a hot cup of coffee, and kick off your day on a good note with the friendliest staff in Tahoe," said Murin. He is also encouraging others to do what they can for the community during these "challenging times."
