El Dorado County COVID-19 Friday update

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A man from El Dorado County who traveled to the State of Washington has a confirmed case of COVID-19. It is believed he was exposed while there and was tested in Placer County.

It is unknown why he took the test in another county.

His symptoms appeared when got back from Washington and immediately isolated himself and did all of the recommended steps.

“His symptoms were mild, he self-isolated when he became symptomatic as health officials have been suggesting, and he has fully recovered,” said El Dorado County Public Health Officer, Dr. Nancy Williams.

The individual had no underlying health issues and was not in the high-risk category of 65 years old and above.

He was the second case Friday of an El Dorado County resident being confirmed with COVID-19.

A resident of the county who traveled to Central California to visit sick relatives has fully recovered from a mild case of COVID-19. Health officials believe she contracted the virus while there. She has not been in El Dorado County since leaving for the visit.

“Given the rapidly increasing number of confirmed cases in our region and across California, we have expected and prepared for the inevitability of a confirmed case in an El Dorado County resident,” said Dr. Williams. “We are, of course, grateful the individual did not return to El Dorado County while she was still sick.”

To date, as of March 20 at 12:00 p.m., El Dorado County Public Health has received notification of COVID-19 test results for 68 El Dorado County residents, with 66 of those tests being negative and two tests being positive. Results are pending for at least 50 more tests that have been performed by healthcare providers at various healthcare facilities across the County over the last week. Results are taking a bit longer than expected, five to seven days.
