Lake Valley Fire crews respond to Meyers roof collapse

Lake Valley Fire Department (LVFD) crews responded to a roof collapse off of Nahane Street Wednesday morning. The flat roof and deck collapsed over the garage of the Meyers area home had due to a heavy snow load.

A neighbor saw the damage March 22 and called it in, but they are unsure of when the incident actually occurred.

Crews immediately shut off the gas to the property and notified Liberty Utilities, Southwest Gas, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department and Building Department.

Upon contacting the property owner, it was determined that this was a second residence and no one was home or injured at the time.

The LVFD crews removed snow from the property in order to secure the residence and prevent further damage.

The fire district would like to remind residents to clear roofs and decks of excessive snow when it is safe to do so. The weight of the snow on the structure in combination with te additional snow and rain in the forecast can cause structures to collapse.

There is no financial estimate of damage at this time.
