Lake Tahoe Humane Society open on Fridays only as they restructure

For 51 years the Lake Tahoe Humane Society has offered services to animals in the South Lake Tahoe community, but today they are facing some tough times after firing their executive director almost one year ago amidst allegations of embezzlement arose when their bank called them about irregular activity on the agency's debit card.

They nonprofit agency has been through a touch year, trying to recover financially and get their fundraising efforts back on track. The board of directors and others involved with the agency survive only on donations.

The Lake Tahoe Humane Society is not closed and will be restructuring their organization according to Sue Pritchett, board member of the agency.

She will be at the office on Fridays, for now, to distribute free food to those in need from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The cats. Callie and Truman, who have called the agency home in recent months, now have new homes.

There will be more news about their restructure in the next few days.

If people want to help the Lake Tahoe Humane Society, donations to help pay off their veterinary bills would be the biggest help according to Pritchett. She said payments could be made on their account to Dr. Monroe at Sierra Veterinary on Lake Tahoe Boulevard by Rojos and Alpine Animal Hospital on Emerald Bay Road.

The Lake Tahoe Humane Society is located at 884 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe,
