Student arrested at South Tahoe High after bringing a knife to school

An 18-year-old South Tahoe High School student was arrested on campus Friday for bringing a knife to school.

"There was no immediate threat to our students thanks to vigilance of school personnel," said STHS Principal Chad Houck.

The student was booked into El Dorado County Jail on a felony charge of bringing a weapon to school. He has since been released. His bail had been set at $10,000 but it is unknown what he posted.

School teachers and staff are guided or trained to notice when a student's behavior is out of the ordinary. While the circumstances surrounding this knife incident are remaining confidential, Principal Hauck said generally, this type of incident is reported to administration, who then get involved with early intervention before the situation escalates.

"Fortunately, we have a working relationship with SLTPD and the Probation department, so they are often available to help with student situations from the outset of an intervention," said Houck.
