Winter Weather Advisory issued for Lake Tahoe area

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe from 2 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday for areas above 7,000 feet.

Lake level is not included in this advisory.

Snow is forecast for the Tahoe Basin above 7000 feet with accumulations of 6 to 10 inches, locally up to 16 inches along the Sierra crest. Winds gusting as high as 90 mph along ridgelines.

The snow could be heavy at times on Wednesday evening. At lake level, the chance of precipitation is 90 percent with possible new snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches.

Travel could be very difficult due to slick roads and reduced visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Strong winds could cause damage to trees and power lines, and impact recreation.
