South Lake Tahoe proclamation recognizes Fair Housing Month

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe Mayor Cristi Creegan met with representatives from the South Tahoe Association of Realtors (STAR) to make the official proclamation that the City to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act.

REALTOR associations at the national, state, and local levels across the country are joining in on this anniversary during April, Fair Housing Month. This month is held to highlight the landmark civil rights law signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on April 11, 1968, that made discrimination in housing transactions unlawful. The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color national origin, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, and familial status.

"The City Council of the City of South Lake Tahoe does hereby proclaim the month of April 2023 as 'Fair Housing Month' to establish the City of South Lake Tahoe as an inclusive community committed to fair housing and to promote appropriate activities by private and public entities intended to provide or advocate for equal housing opportunities for all residents and prospective residents of South Lake Tahoe," the proclamation states.
